In that case, perhaps you should e-mail Feith your previous comment and see if he's flattered.

        Everybody hates this guy.

General Bobby Franks, quoted in Bob Woodward's Plan of Attack, on Feith:

"I have to deal with the f*cking stupidest guy on the face of the earth almost every day."

Montgommery in the European part of WW2. Anyone except perhaps Schlieffen in WW1

And the Swedish guys who gave up Poltava 1709 and Sveaborg (Soumenlinna)1809 without even trying to fight. But back then you were elected for your name rather than your skills.

I saw a former class mate with silver hair when driving my kid to school this morning. Makes me wonder: Am I really that old? I still look at all the women who drop their kids and tell myself - Wow, what a MILF!!!!

Ah, so you are putting Mr George W Bush on the same level of the heads of the PRC. The latter are supposedly evil to the core - according to you anyway - robbing the poor, destroying the earth, and fattening themselves in the process. OTOH, the former is supposedly the leader of the West. You know, democracies, human rights, all sorts of good stuff.

              Fascinating.

Who will be the next brave soul to criticize the Bush administration? Can we make a thread for him too?

OK... I think we ought to create a topped Bush Bashing thread for stuff like this. I mean, nobody on this thread is going to say anything original, no minds are going to be changed, the Prez himself is a lame duck getting lamer by the day, and this guy, whoever he is, is but the 1,654,464 critic of a sitting President to have received newspaper space since the founding of the Republic.

                    In other words....

                    yawn

Move along! Nothing to see here!

Powell's Chief of Staff during his tenure at the State Dept. isn't exactly a nobody.

By the way, it takes more to be a colonel than the president. I'm not saying this about this particular president, but generally. You are not elected to be a colonel, you actually have to be.. a very good individual. Just think about it, have you ever come across .. a.. superbly idiot military high ups? I mean they can be irritating and all that, but most ofthen, they are very good individuals, at least in western armies. I have usually respect by default for high officers who have worked their way up in the army, since it's not exactly an easy task, rarely it's a mistake, and they basically have proved their own rank and fill the boots. That's a huge job
In the US military IIRC, there's only a set number of field grade and general grade officers. This means essentially, that while it's realtively easy to get promoted up to O-3 (captain/lieutenant in the navy) you have to literally wait for someone above that to die or retire to get promoted again. Interesting way to work things IMHO.

Nor is he exactly somebody. He just is. He's just another person getting his day in the sun because the media has all this space it has to fill constantly. He's talking along a common and popular theme and his words will be forgotten by next week in the rush for the Next Big Critic.

We will agree with everything you say, JohnT because obviously you're not blindly biased in favor of Bush!

I'm not too sure how I'm "blindly in favor for Bush", I just recognize "news" created for a need for copy better than some people.

It's like those people who complained that Clinton was having his big donors sleep in the Lincoln Bedroom. Like, no duh! Where else are they supposed to sleep?

Same thing here. You have a loyalist who is upset at his loss of power and prestige because the man to which he attached his coattails failed to maintain his power and prestige. No news here - it happens all the time!

I can't decide which smilie cinches your point the most -- the cute smilie, the winking smilie or the tongue smilie.
