We call them 'a case of beer'. Worst thing about carrying them is they are unweildy. Fits perfect in my travelling backpack though

Slight threadjack: How come ALL grandfathers are real and complete bad-asses, and manly men?

My mother's dad - served as a tank commander in the red army in WWII, and was went up the rankers later. My father's dad, who was more "emo", was it seems, in the soviet secret police in the 20s ( quit right on time).

So what can I do to match and overcome that? not much - though I could probably take on each one of them at their prime.

My maternal grandfather was a dock worker, professional boxer and boxing trainer, rescued a woman from a blazing car (suffering serious burns to his hands, forearms and legs) and witnessed the Easter Rising in Dublin in 1916.

Oerdin, you did 2 miles under 10 minutes? That's a really good time... really really good. How much could you do in 12 minute run? I think my best ever was 2 miles in 12 minutes, and that was when I was peaking several years ago, can't get anywhere near that now.

So.. I think my grandpa is proud of me no matter what I do. He was most impressed every time he came to see me play hockey but I don't play anymore so.. but he liked that, he was one of my biggest fans.

I think he's proud of my fighting abilities and shooting abilities. He was big army fan too, ranking Captain. So he liked when there was visiting day so he came to check it out and see how I'm doing, he was proud when I got promoted and stuff.

But, basically I can do all man stuff except fix cars. I have good survival skills. Then again, that would exclude deserts and stuff like that.

I think though he was proud of me for having gone to university- something that someone of his class and education tended to respect and place great value on.

He also took great pride in my skill in art- and I'm sure would have liked to have known that I'd travelled around the world.


Oh, and he did teach me boxing skills, and I suspect he would have liked to fly in a glider and scuba dive too.

We managed to get my partner's father scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef though- not bad for a 70 year old.

That's awesome. Treating parents to stuff like that is something I can't wait for, personally. I just wish I'll be already in a financial shape to pamper my father in 5 years time, when he reaches 70. I'll buy and refurbish an army surplus 4x4, like he always wanted.
