Spiffor, jesus man, don't you ever read what I write? It doesn't WORK!!!!!! We DON'T have mass transit that covers anything but the capital, and it's expensive as hell anyway. I drove to my working place almost twice as cheap ALONE. Then of course I had car pool going on so I saved a lot of money. It doesn't work in here, period.

The taxes go to massive bureocracy, you remember, what you support, that offers jobs and **** for people who are buddies and want to be officials psuhing papers and faxing each other.

DanS, No, taxes in here are only partially the problem. I've complained about them in every other thread. I've never said anything to anyone else, but I'm getting sick and tired of this, when Dubya opens his mouth, prices goes up and stays there until he opens it again, and repeat. It's not only his fault, I know, the local businesses are taking advantage of it, however I just once hope he doesn't give our businesses any reasons to rise them prices up. He should just go do something else and get someone else in place or something. Or invade us maybe, that would be also good.

Vet, I took it from my friend, 0%.

Bush has almost 0% to do with this. The only blame that he bears for this is in deficit spending, which helped the US economy grow and create accelerating oil demand that took the oil producers by surprise. But even there, the demand shock included the US, China, India, etc. IOW, about half the world.

He has more mthan 0% to do with this. Everytime he ****s up, gas prices in here goes up. Maybe you don't know about it, because they are more stable in where you live. I think you know but I have to point out that everything he does, has multiple effects in here. Every single time. And if it was someone else, it still woudl have effects in here, he just seems to have super high rate of screwing things up, just seeing how the effects in here goes.

          It's all interconnected.

You on the other hand praise Dubya for gained jobs, and then release him on this ****? He isn't the main suspect here, but he is in the line of accused ones, along with local businesses and tax ****ers, greens, lefties and all other tax loving idiots.

It's the green logics. We shouldn't lower the raise on new cars, because then only rich people can afford them. DUh? Rich people can afford it now, it's the poorer folks that can't afford them and if oyu want to keep the tax high, good luck to your mercedes driving butt. THey're the biggest hypocrites and first to be executed in the market square when the revolution starts.

Just mentioning that number's gonna piss Pekka off even more.

He just paid $6 a gallon, 60% of which is taxes. And most of those taxes are really just punitive in nature.

Strange. In France we have similar prices, but the price is supposed to be made of 80% by taxes, and 20% by the commodity.

I guess the state has reduced the tax rate, when the oil prices exploded.

No. Often the special taxes on gasoline are simple excise taxes, which are paid in per litre amounts (rather than as a percent of the sale)

When the commodity price increases the relative cost of taxes goes down.

                              For instance, in Quebec IIRC:

15 cents per litre provincial excise tax
10 cents per litre federal excise tax
15% GST+QST (charges based on price including all excise taxes)

At 0.80$ per litre the percentage contributions to the cost are:

                              44% tax
                              56% commodity, delivery, margin etc

At 1.40$ per litre the percentages are:

                              31% tax
                              69% commodity, delivery, margin etc

The per litre special taxes on gasoline make sense because they're supposed to pay for negative externalities like road maintenance, pollution etc.

These negative externalities depend on the amount of gasoline used in litres, not on the amount of money the gasoline cost.
