I think this double standard plays out the same way in a lot of cultures. Always the minority gets the benifet of the doubt. They seldom do so this one case is good to see.

UR, just because a slang term is popular does not justify it, nor does it excuse the motives behind it. That some people use these terms without thinking just shows the danger of racism, and how easy and casually it can spread.

IIRC, the movement had a ridiculously huge variety of causes, from the progress of economic reforms to bad student cafeteria food to black men dating Chinese girls to an urging towards "democracy." (I place the word in quotes because I've yet to really find any two people in China who can really agree on what democracy is...funny really) And then *poof* everyone went home for the holidays...it was just a lot of random frustrations for a variety of causes that came to be united it seems.

The '89 movement, however, is a different matter.
