I think your biggest problem was Domanick Davis not playing in a game that Houston actually won - we've got a bench in this game, why aren't players automatically subbed when the starters don't start...?
Not that I'm complaining too loudly on this occasion...

I'm peaking at the right time baby.
Man, when Bulger was healthy I was beating down people. Then I had Jamie Martin and things weren't too bad. Fitzpatrick though? That didn't work out. Now I'm ridin' the Rex Train.
Good season guys. It was fun and frustrating.
Next year it might be a good idea to look around for another way to play. H2H relies a bit too much on luck for my taste.I never know their names, But i smile just the same

I posted something before the begining of the season about this wacky scoring system my family uses for FF, and I didn't get much of a response. Just to let you know, this is why I MUCH prefer this realalistic scoring system to all other FFLs:
Adam's Atoms win SWFFL Fantasy Bowl XIV!!! (Yes, we have been playing for 14 seasons)
In an ugly game, where both the Atoms and the Jocks were on pins and needles for all of the Monday Night Game between The Patriots and the Jets. The Jocks needed a stellar defensive performance and kicking to win the Championship. He nearly got them, but the Atoms pulled out the victory where the 30-24 score does not indicate how close the game was.
With New England dominating the game, they benched Brady and let Doug Flutie play the last quarter. Up by three scores already with less than 5 minutes to play, New England went for it on 4 and 7 when they were in Field Goal range. At this time, the Jocks needed a single Kicking point to win. The center snaped the ball and Flutie fumbled it. Recovered by the Jets, they benched former Badger Brooks Bollinger and put in old Vinny Testaverdi. Vinny threw two completions before connecting on a 27 yard TD strike with 2:10 remaining in the game. With the completion, the Jets had totaled 171 yards of offense, dropping the Jocks defensive victory from 10-0 to 7-0. The magic number for the catagory: 163; a mear 8 yards difference.
New England them recovered the onsides kick, and were instantly in Jocks Kicker, Adam Vinatieri range. In field goal range, the Patriots converted a 3rd and 5 for a first down and got to kneel on the next play for the victory.
While not as close as the 2 yard difference in Fantasy Bowl VIII (Atoms 28 Thugs 27), there was a plausable victory scenerio in almost every catagory for each team.
The Rushing catagory was not one of them. Atoms won by well over 100 yards. Atoms 10, Jocks 0.
The receiving catagory, while not in contention on MNF, was only separated by 7 yards. Jocks won the catagory 7-3. Atoms 13, Jocks 7.
With the Atoms benching Payton Manning and starting Steve McNair, who threw for 34 yards and two picks before getting injured (netting -16 yards), the Jocks needed only a poor performance from Kerry Collins to win the catagory. That is excatly what he got. Collins netted only 153 yards passing. It was, however, enough to win the Passing catagory 10-0. Atoms 13, Jocks 17.
Comming into the Monday night game, the Atoms were winning the TD catagory 36 to 18, exactly by 18 points, the cutoff for 10-0 compared to 7-0. If New England scored a defensive TD or posted a shutout, the Atoms would have lost 3 points by droping from 10 to 7 points. Neither happend and the Atoms maintained the 10-0 victory. Atoms 23, Jocks 17.
With the Ravens holding the Viking to 262 total yards on Sunday Night, the Jocks needed New England to hold the Jets to 162 or less to win the Defense catagory 10-0. As stated earlier, with the 27 yard TD strike at 2:10 left, the Jets got enough garbage yards to total 171 yards of offense that droped the defnse catagory to only a 7 point victory for the Jocks. Atoms 23, Jocks 24.
It has come down to kicking. On Saturday, Atoms Kicker J.Elam kicked for 10 points, enough to give them a 10-0 victory in the catagory, but the Jocks Vinatieri was to play on MNF. After dominating the game for 3 quaters, the Jocks kicker had only 4 extra points (dropping the Atoms victory to 7-0). Halfway through the 4th quarter, Vinatieri kicked a field goal giving him 7 points to Elams 10. One more point was all that Vinatieri needed to get close enough for a 7-3 Kicking catagory. As stated earlier, it never happened and the Atoms won the catagory 7-0. Atoms 30, Jocks 24.
Close game. To make matters even more interesting, the Jocks held the tie breaker by 34 yards, 507 to 473.
Good game and great season. Now we can chear on the Bears!!!

Play Off Week II: The Super Bowl
for 3rd
Chitown Cavalry 85.01 Final
Berzerkers 164.95
for 5th
Dwarf Tossers 98.24 Final
Ramsey's Benchwarmer 112.95
the Super Bowl
Cardiff Dragons 113.70 Final
Lincoln's Pockets 101.74
for 7th
Kreigsgewitter 110.71 Final
Naked Sasquatches 104.35
By virtue of the pathetic SB between the Dragons and the Pockets and my dominating performance, I declare myself league champion.
Now, back to reality
Congrats goes out to the Cardiff Dragons on winning both the season point total (the tiebreaker in a 5 way tie at 9-5) and the Super Bowl.
And congrats to Lincoln's Pockets for going to the big dance and coming close in the finals. Even more luck and/or skill is required the final week as I'm sure y'all know. Not only do we have to interpret injury reports with a more discerning eye and analyse match ups, we have to deal with guessing how much if any time many of the stars will play. I lucked out, Seattle could still lose home field advantage and they sure didn't want to face Chicago at Soldier Field (is that still the Bears field?) so they kept Alexander running. Unfortunately my opponent in the SB at FFZ had him too...
Congrats go to the Deviations for scoring the highest weekly score of 185.45, here are the weekly winners:
W1 Lincoln's Pockets 155.89
W2 Lincoln's Pockets 156.52
W3 Berzerkers 154.89
W4 Lincoln's Pockets 162.08.
W5 Berzerkers 149.84
W6 Cardiff Dragons 156.51
W7 Berzerkers 152.15
W8 Deviations 185.45
W9 Cardiff Dragons 145.96
W10 Kreigsgewitter 156.89
W11 Berzerkers 166.44
W12 Cardiff Dragons 172.41
W13 Kreigsgewitter 155.99
W14 Kreigsgewitter 155.71
R 1 Lincoln's Pockets 149.12
R 2 Berzerkers 164.95
The Pockets tied me at 4 weeks in round 1 but I got the final week so I win that category with 5 weeks. And I got 0 from Jolley after he had a career game last week but NE played hard instead of relaxing defenders. Switching from Miami to Baltimore cost me ~11 pts too, so I messed up a shot at the Deviations weekly best. My decision making wasn't great this year, and pretty bad at FFZ. My best pick up off waivers was Boldin, I was lacking a decent #2 WR (I dropped Porter just before he had a couple big weeks) and I guess someone got tired of waiting for Boldin to recover from an injury. Shorter rosters will do that, we play 24 man rosters over at FFZ so its rare a top starter like him would be dropped.
Here are the final standings by record and points
1. Cardiff Dragons 11-5-0 2102.18
2. Berzerkers 10-6-0 2077.23
3. Lincoln's Pockets 10-6-0 1990.19
4. Kreigsgewitter 10-6-0 1898.82
5. Chitown Cavalry 9-7-0 1881.38
6. Ramsey's Benchwarmer 9-7-0 1695.96
7. Dwarf Tossers 8-8-0 1866.34
8.Naked Sasquatches 7-9-0 1804.00
Not making the playoffs
9. Fighting Emus 7-7-0 1443.61
10. Deviations 6-8-0 1637.95
11. City Hobgoblins 4-10-0 1511.69
12. Vegas Skull Munchers 1-13-0 1325.95
Notable, the Benchwarmers won the consolation bracket and 5th place with a relatively low point total, that translates into alot of close wins and gray hairs.
Post what you want about your season, good moves, bad moves, etc. I'm curious about strategy too...
Do you play a normal starter in the face of a tough D or go with a lesser starter against a weaker D. How did it work out? I saw some top WRs have big days against tough Ds because the run was getting stuffed and once I got Boldin and Holt as my tandem, I just left them in there. But the WR/RB position was more complicated, based on our stats RB's were much more balanced with other players but I think we may have gone a little too far. We went with 10 rds per point and I think 15 yds per point is better.
Half way thru the season I figured out RBs were producing better (yeah, it took me that long) so I decided on RBs for my utility player - 80 yds on the ground = 8 points, 4 catches for 80 yds = 8 points - seems balanced. But RB's consistently put up bigger numbers, there's just more yards gained on the ground relative to the number of people gaining the yards. Passing yards are higher than rushing, but yardage is spread around to different players much more whereas starting RBs get most of the rushing yards.

Yaaay!
Thanks everyone for a great season!
It's a bit disingenuous talking about mistakes when you've won the league with the most points in the season, but there were certain things that could have gone a lot better...
Probably my biggest bugbear was my seeming complete inability to pick the best starting QB on a given week out of Hasselbeck, Bledsoe and Warner as each blew hot and cold and I'd keep missing their mini streaks sometimes by over 20 points. Of course if I'd picked Palmer like I intended to instead of waiting too long...
I had a couple of 'unlucky' games where I lost to the team with the highest score of the week with great scores, but then that balanced out when Berz couldn't beat my weakest team of the season when I had to sit out Tomlinson and The Johnsons - of course, my inspired pickup of Sam Gado was what won it for me that week...
Definitely a deserved winner I think, most points, beating 2nd place in the regular season, 3rd place in the SB (losing to them in the reg. season) and doing the double over 4th place.
Consistency is the key, even in the playoffs both of my results were 2nd out of 8 - even the pathetic SB score...
Not bad for a Limey in his first season playing a bunch of Americans at their own sport!

Seventh Place
Mountain Goats [7] 72.25 Final
The Spaced Cowboys [8] 135.36
As you can all see, the Football Gods were favorable to me. I had a hot streak going scoring massively (145 points average per week for ten straight weeks). Priest Holmes' injury led to Pick 101 becoming my most valuable pick: Larry Johnson.
There is one incredibly salient detail I should mention. I slipped into the playoffs as the #4 seed, because Jonny managed to beat Sneak, and I outscored Sneak enough to make it. However, if Sneak made it into the playoffs as the #4 seed, he would have won the Championship
Jaguar got his deserved karma backlash for laughing at my T.O.-trade
Per Week Scoring Maximums
Congratulations to Sneak for getting the highest week score of 178.51. Interestingly enough, it was against me
For the season, Jonny and I split the highest scores with three weeks each, but my playoff scoring power allowed me to win those two weeks, giving me a 5-3 edge in that department.

Ironically, we thought it was some sort of blockbuster deal when it went forward. The third running back pick in the draft for the third WR pick in the draft. Both ended up being worthless."You're the biggest user of hindsight that I've ever known. Your favorite team, in any sport, is the one that just won.
