Linksys has their upgrade to Cisco program...

If your Internet account requires registering via PPPoe, then, it is highly likely that you can program that info into the wireless router. You will need to get the IP address of the wireless router and configure it. This is easy to do by connecting with the laptop and running ipconfig (or winipcfg depending on your OS). Your gateway is the IP address of the wireless router. If your account is such that you cannot have 2 logins at one time, then you will have to get a wireless card for the old PC and connect via the wireless router.

So, I switched computers... Now I have my cousin's old P4, instead of the P3.

I've configured the ADSL modem - the PC is connected and the Internet connection is working smoothly.

However, when I connected my laptop, even through a simple LAN wire, and not the wireless, the laptop won't access the internet.

Furthermore, I've discovered that the Wi-Fi box is just an acess point, not a router. It still should be configured through 192.168.1.254 - but it doesn't.

Are you sure that's the right IP? I say either 192.168.0.1 or 10.0.0.1 are more likely, if you got it first hand.

              Oh.

Maybe you need to do it through a wired connection if it has one. Also, don't forget to configure your computer accordingly. E.g. IP 192.168.6.1, subnet mask 255.255.255.0.

                  Right.

                  Wouldn't matter on Windows though.

Nope, no connection to the Access point - but doesn't the DHCP give the Access point some other number?

Other stuff, bordering on science fiction -

I can connect wirelessly to the ADSL modem, to configure it, and stuff. The wireless connection actually works, it seems ( but I still need to configure it so it will be safe ) - HOWEVER, IT SEEMS THAT MY LAPTOP DOESN'T LIKE THE INTERNET.

I mean, I can connect through a wire to the modem, I can connect wirelessly to the modem, but I cannot connect to the internet either way!

Have you considered walking into the computer science faculty and asking for help

Most ADSL modems aren't configurable. They just take analogue signals off the telephone line, convert them into digital signals, and package them into IP packets.

Have you been actually able to configure the modem?

This one is a router. a complete router.

So you have something that is a combination of an ADSL modem and a router?

Still, routers aren't necessarily configurable. Have you been able to do that?
