      what is dixie?
how is general american different than yankee?

      Dixie is Southern dialect.

Yankee is pretty difference than a 'General American' dialect. Yankee accent is pretty distinctive (think Boston or New York), like Matt Damon in "Good Will Hunting" or Jerry Seinfeld (for a mild NY accent) . General American is just want you normally hear on TV shows and the like.

Dixie tends to be slower, and so it's more easily discernible. The differences between Yankee, Midwestern, and Upper Midwestern is more in the vowels or in the sharpness of the consonants, and so it's tougher to pick up on the accent.

Hell yeah. Although the 10% dixie kind of perplexes me... (having grown up in Boston).

But some of the questions need more options. Like the coke/soda/pop one I found difficult to answer. Growing up I said "tonic" 90% of the time, and soda for the rest... but its not really fair to say I say soda.

Could the Yankee and Dixie results be for Britishisms? I dare say my English is still more British than American, and there's definitely nothing southern about it.

With or without religion, you would have good people doing good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good people to do evil things, that takes religion.
