The percentage of Quebecers who might be counted on to join the revolution was probably more on the order of 10%
Probably smaller than the number of Londoners who supported the revolution

There was already a huge cultural gulf between what would become "Canada" and what was the US.
But in the 13 colonies recent brit immigrants tended toward loyalism as well.

Don't generalize. You could apply most of those to certain states, like Massachusetts for example.
Agreed. There are a few border areas where the culture is very similar on each side but I think this is pretty common in border areas--

There aren't two monolithic cultures on this continent, there are hundreds, many of which have more cross border affinities than domestic.
Again I agree-- its tough to talk about the "THE culture" of any diverse nation. Thats why when I hear "same culture" I can point out some obvious differences. I refuted a generalization with more generalizations

yes and I have set foot in every province in this great country and I do consider it a great country. I have seen that there is great diversity across this country.I acknowledge there is great diversity in the US but I reject the notion that there cannot be large and substantial differences between two very diverse cultures.
The farmer in southern Alberta may be indistinguisable from the farmer in Northern Montana but consider other elements
1. canadian weather that defines many cultural and sporting activities
2. a large francaphone population
More generalizations I know, but is there any way to discuss a culture except in general terms??

I wonder why France didn't get Quebec back after the British defeat.

Does anyone know if the French revolutionaries ever attempted to rouse the population of Quebec to revolt? The emissaries from France in the early 1790s tried to instigate a revolt against the US government when it declined to join a military alliance with republican France. I find it difficult to believe that they didn't try something in Quebec.

Didn't they get back some small Carribean islands? You have to realise that in those days certain islands in the Carribean were more valuable than the mainland North American colonies.

For all intents and purposes Canada is a puppet of the US anyway. What's the beef?
If Canada were a puppet there would have been Canadians amongst the invaders of Iraq. Canada carefully chooses when and where it will cooperate with US requests and demands (with a marked tendacy to cooperate less with the demands than the requests).

This is an important point. Support for the Revolution was far from unanimous even amoung the 13 colonies. Much depended on the Continental Army establishing control. The maritime provinces were geographically separate from the southern colonies, which was significant.
Quebec was far from being a hotbed of revolution. It did not aquire its present leftist outlook until the early 60's. The Catholic heirarchy took one look at the protestant/republican doctrine of the American Revolutionaries and preached collaboration with the British conquerors from every pulpit in the colony.
Che- this was only a defeat vs. the Americans. Though the French assisted, I don't think you could say it was a British defeat vs. the French.
