  • Why did a united North America not form?

Why aren't Canada and the US one country? I mean, the definition of "Canadian" is "not American".

You just wanted to force us to endure more retellings of the Canadian nationalist myths surrounding the War of 1812 didn't you?

If you look at the map you will see that Mexuci is just North America as well, as are all former UPCA countries.

            well this isn't about mexico

but that's another interesting question right there - why aren't mexico and all those tiny Spanish-speaking Central American countries united?

North America is under US rule already... pretty much... Canada and Mexico just don't know it yet

but honestly, the US doesn't care about domestic Canada and Mexican issues, just as long as US dominates economically, I don't think the US gov gives a flying fkcu... think of it as an extension of states' rights

and I'm not being a US fanboy here... just being realistic

Canada was largely settled by French, who saw no advantage to joining the US where they'd be very much outnumbered by Anglophones, and ex-American loyalists who left America precisely because they disagreed with the American revolutionaries and wished to remain subjects of the crown.

At the end of the Mexican-American War there were those who advocated annexing Mexico, but ultimately the US government decided that they didn't want to annex an area where most of the people spoke Spanish. They realised that Mexico had sufficient population that it could not have remained merely a territory, and would have warranted a fairly sizeable congressional allotment. Also Mexico having relatively recnetly abolished slavery posed some problems to the delicate balance of the ante-bellum US goverment. The territories that were annexed were so sparsely populated that they rapidly acquired English speaking majorities, yet also remained mere territories for quite awhile and therefore did not upset the congessional balance between slave and free states.

Canada is an American-dominated player according to both MDs. Same for the rest of the Americas, except Cuba and Venezuela. The US should take measures now to fulfill their very basic principles of foreign policy.
