Shawn: overweightness is not quite like obesity. I have been overweight for years and years without caring too much (I knew it was bad, but not bad enough that I would change my lifestyle to change it).

My first serious diet, one year ago, was when I had suddenly got +6kg in only one week. I knew that if I didn't do something about it, I'd be like my father posthaste.

Considering the amount of candy, fastfood, etc I eat, and how much excersize I get I should be obese by now, but because of some good genes I'm not... my father is in the same situation, he can eat all he wants, but never get fat
This space is empty... or is it?

My father is obese. He's about 60lbs overweight.

Of course, this probably doesn't bode well for me.

She doesn't intend to do any serious diet for now: for one year, she felt stable and she didn't gain weight, and now that she feels good at last (she found an aim in her life), she expects to naturally lose weight with time.
I know alot of depressives put on weight, but for me it was the opposite; during the worst part of my depression, I was losing a kg/week, which was enough to send my doctor complaining.

Some people might just be content in their lifestyles...

I'm happy in a stable relationship etc, eating great food and drink and not doing enough exercise.

Also as you get older your metabolism slows and you're less likely to do sports etc. Currently my level of exercise is the worst it's ever been in my life and I ain't exactly a spring chicken anymore, hence I am slowly 'spreading out' and a bit overweight.

I just have no incentive to go to the effort of changing my lifestyle...

Though I expect if I were single it would be a totally different matter!

I think what Stewie is saying is he's not content in his life and can't get a girlfriend...

How fat is obese anyway? the weight charts that Ive seen have obese pretty close to normal weight. According to the weight charts Im not far from being 'obese', but that doesnt match with reality IMO

Those charts are made by WeightwatchersTM who want as many people buying their products as possible so as to get a nice *fat* profit.

Arent all fat guys big built though? Or they end up that way as they get strong enough to support their weight

I guess beng fat isnt so bad, as long as your muscle increases in proportion with your weight. I doubt the 30st guys have got much chance though.

From a health point of view, I wonder if overweight people could avoid most of their cardiac problems by getting fat on carrots or something.

I've never understood the compulsion to be some sort of beefcake...seems incredibly vain...
