        Sex CAUSES depression?

I'm more inclined to believe the lack of sex is the real cause.

Hmmm, kids have sex, later, after they've broken up, quiz them to find out that they're now depressed since they've broken up and are no longer getting sex.
          Makes perfect sense to me.

Before the feeding frenzy continues to its usual bogus conclusions I'd like to point out that the Pacific Institute for Research and Evaluation is focussed (in part) on substance abuse and not a 'right wing think tank'.

I'm not an expert but I did scan the paper and I did not find nothing obviously faulty about its objectives, sample, or conclusions. It merely challenges the notion that depression leads to risky behaviours in teens. Their evidence indicates the opposite.

While this is true, I'm still not convinced that correlation in this case is the same as causation.

Um, this article talks about 7-11 graders. That's 12 to 16 year olds or something, right? Isn't that rather young to be having sex and doing drugs?

I'd think that the sex, drugs and depression are all symptoms of the same cause, rather than the sex and drugs causing the depression.

They all seem like the result of low self-esteem and insecurity. Those gving in to peer pressure to try and fit in with the group. The girls who end up agreeing to have sex with their boyfriends even when they're not ready. The guys who do drugs or start smoking to be cool. etc.
Then again, that's not the only people who's get a depression, nor would all of them get a depression.

Sava, please don't committ suicide. I like you, and your posts are often funny as hell. Your passing would make the world a little less funny and a little more sad.

Well, then, what does that say about the quality of 24?

Of course, this critique of Lost is coming from someone who, lacking taste, enjoys Stargate SG-1.
