Preachy about how you are not supposed to ever be offended by anything minor- how you are not supposed to let your religious feelings make you act out or complain because your complaint just might annoy others.

Who am I suppsoed to see as more screwed up- guy how thinks design is an insult to his faith, boycotts. Guys who think the fact man boycotts means they can joke about murdering people base on their fatih???

      Honestly.

So the guy got *****y and protested-whatever, his choice. Burger King is a vast corporation whose job is to sell to as many people as possible. if having a design for their ice cream offends anyone, they will change it, why? Because the possible loss of business more than makes up for the cost of a minor change.

Its all about the money for BK, and the path of least resistance for a vast multinational corporation in always the one they seek.
Nope, we're not. I for one am simply being reactionary to something I find to be quite disturbing - what we have here being a minority population wielding disproportionate influence. The point is if something as innocuous as this is offensive to Allah, where is the line going to be drawn? More importantly, who will draw it? I couldn't care less about what my ice cream's contained in, but the point is that there are Muslims out there for whom such a thing actually weights heavily on their mind. The MCB could have done the proper thing and denounced this as ridiculous, but instead they decided to ride with this one. Face facts, Muslims are the new smokers.

You're right about BK being corporate whores though. Anything to maximise profit. If it weren't for the Whopper, I'd be going back to McDonalds in disgust.

As a matter of interest, what was he doing in BK in the first place? It ain't halal, so was he perhaps indulging in some forbidden fruit?

of course most of the posters to this thread did NOT joke about murdering muslims. The one who did was Theben, and the one who said Inshallah to that was Ted Striker, who oddly has a George Galloway avatar.

There must be some irony here im not getting.

"Undue influence"? you think if BK put a cross on the top of that, or a star of David, or a smiling Buddha on top, there would be no protest? and that in the end, the result would not be the same-ie. Burger King changes the logo?

Muslims are the ones bringing this up because anything that might be offensive to the othe rmain faiths, Christianity and Judaism, were already long ago left out of the running, if ever in contention. They are now really the only ones left to offend, since the people making these logos probably have no clue what would be offensive to Muslim, thus increasing the possibility they might happen upon something that does.

Uh, they didnt put a crescent on top. They put a swirl, which resmembled (to this guy) arabic letters for allah. Do you really think anybody at BK would recognize something that vaguely resembled Hebrew letters? If you do, you have a lot more confidence in BK than I do. If Jews arent complaining about things like this, its cause we focus our complaints where there is reason to beleive that someone actually meant something by it.

And btw, I was watching Ranma, a Japanese manga with my daughter the other day. Theres an evil magic symbol that just happens to be a 6 pointed star - she noticed - I told her its probably just a geometric symbol to the Japanse, or maybe something in THEIR culture. And I certainly havent heard the ADL complaining about it.

WE get called oversensitive when the ADL complains about "The Passion of the Christ"

Is Takahashi an antisemite, or just a victim of received cultural symbolism?:

Well ****, I better not write the letters 'u' and 'w' next to each other any more - wouldn't want to offend any muslims.

The complaint is ridiculous, but if he wants to complain he can go ahead and do that.

I think all products with packaging and/or labels with the letter "t" on them should be boycotted due to the resemblance to a cross.

We think we can joke about murdering people based on their faith quite independently of whether this particular loser goes thru with his boycott or not, thank you.

problem - theyre already boycotting mcdonalds

                            "Background:

McDonalds chairman and CEO Jack M. Greenberg is an honorary director of the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Inc., of Metropolitan Chicago.

According to the Chicago Jewish Community Online, McDonalds Corporation is a major corporate partner of the Jewish United Fund and Jewish Federation.

Through its Israel Commission, the Jewish United Fund "works to maintain American military, economic and diplomatic support for Israel; monitors and, when necessary, responds to media coverage of Israel."

The Jewish United Fund runs "Fun-filled Summer Family Missions to Israel" where families get to "visit an army base and meet with Israeli soldiers" and "visit our sister city, Kiryat Gat and see the important work we are doing there." Kiryat Gat, you may be aware from the boycott of Intel and Coca-Cola campaigns, is built on stolen Palestinian land - the lands of the villages of Iraq Al Manshiya and Al-Faluja, whose residents were ethnically cleansed in 1949 in contravention of International Law. Through its "Partnership to Israel" program, the Jewish United Fund provides $1.3 million annually to help the development of Kiryat Gat and to promote further illegal settlements there.

In the Jewish United Funds outreach program, they pay for Christian leaders and American high school kids to visit Israel and be fed Zionist lies.

McDonalds entered the Israeli market in 1993 and now has 80 restaurants across Israel, providing employment to some 3000 Israelis."

Is it just me, or does this guy seeing those "blasphemous" words remind you of people who see the face of the Virgin Mary in a piece of toast or in the concrete under a highway underpass?

Incidentally, this is why we need to have other colonies, away from earth. Keep super-sensitive religionistas out of 'em, let 'em have mother Earth, and that way, progress can continue unabated. Religion won't be banned--but fundamentalists and religionistas have no place where retarding progress can cause death.
