isnt that like aying might as well kick them when they are down?? Texas isnt as suspectiable to a disater as that magnatide. The worst hit will be the refineriers then the coast. the floods we might face i can assume will not even compare to that of no

Having lived in texas all my life we have never had a hurricane level a city like that did to no and it wasnt only katrina that leveled the city by the way. It was the ridiculous levves they had in place that most intelligent folks knew would fail. I see ur logic as why not beat a dead horse but that does really nobody any good when you have folks in both cities and states

The hurricane is going to hit. It's a case of minimising damage, and frankly I think if there is going to be x dollars spent on Katrina, and y dollars spent on Rita, I'd rather have x+y needing to be spent in one area where relief effort can be localised, rather than spread it over 3 or 4 states and the entire Gulf Coast.
steamrolling 300 miles of coastline is not preferable to steamrolling the same 150 mile coastline twice in a month. Sorry for being such an ass
Maybe it will help make more people wake up to reality - building below sea level near a coast regularly visited by hurricanes is unwise. But I've seen some of these levees that broke and I was not impressed with their construction. They need massive earthen damns, not thin walls of steel or reinforced concrete. But the politicos down there have been wasting federal money on pork just like their uncles in Washington. NO flooded because crooks are running the show
I agree with Berzerker. It may seem cruel but the damage is already done in that section of the lower states. And if you think that Rita won't make it to cat 5 with nothing between it and Texas but warm Gulf waters, well then I've got a bridge in NO to sell you.
Don't think NO, think Biloxi when Rita makes landfall.
I'm consitently stupid- Japher I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

But there's a reason the American midwest is a breadbasket for the world as are the peoples and lands in the line of typhoons, etc... Kansas has to suffer tornadoes in exchange for food, without the aerial conflict of cooler drier air coming down off the Rockies and moist gulf winds which produces tornadoes we'd suffer far worse droughts. Hurricanes bring much needed moisture during the hottest months of the year as harvest time approaches.
