Lithuania is most interesting. It could well be that she has the most basketball talent per capita in the world. Why so? Are Lithuanians taller than other Baltics? And if so, why?
You're welcome, Saras
I mean, when I was a child of 7-11 years old (before I switched to a real man's sport) I had three basketball trainings, three swimming and three chess trainings per week (it was my own choice from all available variants) absolutely FOR FREE.
Those weren't a school lessons, but a full scale training sessions (each aprox. 1,5-2 hours long after the main education in school). Not to mention that main education in school already included few hours of so-called "physical education" per week.
So, sport was easily accessible for Soviet children. They could train 7 days per week, chose any sport/sports they wish and pay absolutely nothing for this. And any child had a real chance to become a great sportsman for free.
No wonder we still expoploit last (unfortunately last)sweet fruits of Soviet system. Saras,
And sure Lithuanians were one of the best among the Soviets in terms of basketball. Don't know why, perhaps soviets invested there more than usual.Last edited by Serb; September 23, 2005, 13:47.

Lithuanians were the 'soviet' school. Where the fvuck is this soviet school since we broke away? your dreams perhaps, and maybe in the dreams of the late Gomelsky (great man). Russia sucks at basketball dude, and lithuania has at any time three world class teams to field.Originally posted by Serb:Please, remind me, how exactly and when exactly, Russia bullied its neighbors?

Doubtful, since you were beaten by France. and the old SU team would take them
To say that the soviet school was purely lithuanian is very much an overstatement of reality. Russia still has a solid basketball schools.
My dad played some ball, was for one of the regional teams, btw. 'twas a long time ago.
