Actually, alcohol does decrease your property value. The hit isn't as bad as if your neighbor's house is a crack house, but it does have an effect.

3 stores within one block of where you live? Where do you live, a ghetto?

    • shawnmmcc, seizing and then selling the property of drug users/dealers has become so profitable for major city law enforcement (and the minors along the shipping routes), that they are never going to give that up extra money.

Yes, but it exists because the American voting citizen got tired of getting wiped out by floods, and find out that their home insurance wouldn't cover it. So the American people got their elected officials to make some laws to take care of that.

Even where insurance companies do cover flood insurance, they often won't cover a "total loss". Of course, they don't need to, as the Feddies do that now.

        • Darkstar - I've commented on the obscene abuse of seizure and forfeiture laws myself in the past. You are sadly correct. What's even worse is that SCOTUS has found them in violation of ban, and these abuses occur none-the-less.

Reference Flood Insurance, it was implemented due to the reasons you cite. However, it has now become a subsidy for wealthy coastal McMansions whose owners get compensated by everyone else when gasp - they get wet. Maybe this will cause people to reexamine the program, but I seriously doubt it. After all, the people who most need it are those wealthy enough to build in coastal and riverfront areas, like Trent Lott. Politicians always take care of their own unless called to account by voters.

                • It really is tiresome having to explain that Neo-conservatism is an IR school of thought without a domestic agenda.
Judging from their responses, I don't think the people you're trying to direct this at are realising that IR is short of International Relations.

                    • It's going to be a very expensive, exclusive develpment with water going right up to your back yard. Usually it is for those who have boats, though some people just like living on the waterfront. I've seen many of them in Florida. THAT IS WHAT OUR FLOOD INSURANCE IS GOING FOR. Morons. And then they whine that they need government relief. Spoiled brats. So much for taking responsibility for ones actions, a favorite mantra of the today's Republican majority when discussing cuts for programs that benefit children in poverty.
