This is why people like you are lowly website designers.
We have more important things to do, like using today's standards and losing time and money to make them work in that browser made by your favourite software company.
Oh, I forgot. You were the one that said that since IE has a market share of almost 100% it sets the de facto standard. So why give any thoughts about upcoming standards at all?
And yes, I'm proud to be a lowly website designer...Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards
And notifying the next of kin

Like I said, js1.6 and CSS3 are still under discussion, so what's the use of implementing them in your sites?
And here's another thought -- at some point somebody has to implement features before they're used. The features are being inplemented, and as other browsers such as Opera and IE7/8 catch up on featuresets they, too, will begin using them.
I don't recall anyone saying you have to use these new features now -- indeed, it doesn't make much sense given the marketshare. But somebody has to start introducing them to put competitive pressures on other browsers and iron out some bugs in their implementations.

FYI, Opera doesn't need to catch up, it's FF that is doing the catching up
As a web designer, you have to go against the de facto standard, which is right now IE 6.
That will change overtime.
Yes, thank you Microsoft. God, I love momopolies...Within weeks they'll be re-opening the shipyards

That's all fine and well, but how does that work out in the workplace?
If you don't want to use it right now it doesn't affect you. If you're designing say, an intranet website in a company like say, IBM where a browser like say, Firefox is the standard...you can go nuts in using it, and in the process fix bugs that you find.

HTML - Presto ahead by 3
XML - Gecko ahead by 6 (Opera's officially against client XSLT)
XHTML - Tied.
Graphics - Presto ahead by 7 (out of date? How much new SVG stuff is in Firefox 1.5beta?)
CSS - Gecko ahead by 2.
DOM - Gecko ahead by 18.
