  • ND threw for almost 500 yards against them. Michigan is the only team to hold ND to under 500 offensive yards total so far this year. I wouldn't be surprised to see Michigan beat them.

I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

    • Michigan usually does not play well at East Lansing. Quarterbacks like Stanton give Michigan fits. MSU would have won last year if he hadn't been injured at the end of the first half.

Yes, Michigan does have one of the best defenses in the Big Ten. But they haven't seen an offense anything like MSU, and when they have in previous years, it has been bad. Perhaps I'm more fatalist than the usual Wolverine fan, but I detect the unmistakable scent of a blowout in the making.

        Jesus, how good is Texas?

I think the more germane question is "how bad is Iowa?"...

        • The new AP poll (without Michigan for the first time since Genesis!):

          #1 USC (59)
          #2 Texas (6)
          #3 Virginia Tech
          #4 LSU
          #5 Florida
          #6 Florida State
          #7 Georgia
          #8 Ohio State
          #9 Miami
          #10 Tennessee
          #11 Michigan State
          #12 California
          #13 Notre Dame
          #14 Arizona State
          #15 Alabama
          #16 Texas Tech
          #17 Wisconsin
          #18 Minnesota
          #19 Virginia
          #20 UCLA
          #21 Boston College
          #22 Purdue
          #23 Iowa State
          #24 Louisville
          #25 Georgia Tech

Now, I'm not saying Michigan is a very strong team this year, but dropping to ARV (#27) after a last-second night-game loss at Camp Randall? Seems a little harsh.

Of course, after their pending loss next week, it'll be a moot point.

Also interesting that they didn't wait for the LSU-Tennessee game to vote.

          • Don't show AP favortism, Guy!

Here's the first-ever Harris Interactive poll (the one that is replacing the AP in the BCS rankings):

            #1 USC (110)
            #2 Texas (3)
            #3 Virginia Tech
            #4 Florida
            #5 LSU
            #6 Florida State
            #7 Georgia
            #8 Ohio State
            #9 Miami
            #10 Michigan State
            #11 California
            #12 Tennessee
            #13 Notre Dame
            #14 Arizona State
            #15 Alabama
            #16 Texas Tech
            #17 Wisconsin
            #18 UCLA
            #19 Virginia
            #20 Minnesota
            #21 Boston College
            #22 Purdue
            #23 Iowa State
            #24 Louisville
            #25 Michigan

It's nice to be vindicated after saying for weeks that Michigan was overrated. And after LSU pimp-slaps Tennessee tomorrow night, I'll be vindicated on that one, too.

USC looks unbeatable. Whoever's going to face them though, is a wide-open book right now.

              • Here's the first-ever Harris Interactive poll

Amazingly, it's incredibly similar to the AP poll, isn't it?

All that talk about the early pre-season rankings mess up the voting seem to be shot down, eh? I mean if the Harris poll comes up with similar results...

And just how differently would you have voted?

                  • Notre Dame

Backed up on their own 1-yard line, the Irish could only call one play -- "pass right." It's what 10-year-old Montana Mazurkiewicz, who died the day before the UW game, asked Charlie Weis to call.

Charlie Wiess grants a dying boy's last wish. This should gain the Golden Domers some major karma points.

A ha! You, sir, have hit on something I was going to suggest.

The first ever Apolyton College Football Poll.

I've been a big college football fan for about 23 of my approaching-28 years on this planet, and if there is one thing I have learned, it is that the pollsters don't have a ****ing clue. I think some true, intelligent fans like us could put together a more predictive and representative poll.

So what I suggest is that any of us who are interested post their Top 10 here (because, after all, do we really need more than a Top 10?), and I will tally the votes. Let's wait until after tonights Tennessee-LSU tilt, since that will obviously have implications. So you, me, Drake, Imran, DanS, reismark, mitchell, asleep... anyone and everyone, really.

Which is my point. The AP, which is criticized for pre-season rankings has basically the same rankings as the Harris poll which has taken into account the fanboys and waited 3 weeks to vote.

Ergo, the AP does a damn good job sorting through the teams, even with preseason rankings.
