You have to realize, Ecthy, that Eugene of Savoy only beat the Turks and the French.

And he wasn't Polish. And he was gay.

How could he compare with someone who saved Poland from the Turks ?

Funny enough, I wanted to reply to Heresson about Sobieski with the exactly same term as did molly.

Anyway, a famous song about Prince Eugen:

          Dux Eugenius, eques purus,
          Caesari recup(e)raturus
          Urbem, arcem Belgradi
          In Danuvio pontem fecit,
          Per quem copias traiecit
          Ante moenia oppidi.

          Ponte facto sine claustro
          Possunt *** tormento, plaustro
          Transgredi Danuvium.
          Ad Semunum tum vallantur,
          Inde Turci ut pellantur,
          Quis sic fit ludibrium.

          Et coorta tempestate
          In Augusto accurate
          Sunt allata nuntia:
          Turcos mondo pabulari,
          Quantum posset vestigari,
          Ter centena milia.

          Quod Eugenius ut audivit,
          Tum legatos arcessivit
          Ilico *** ducibus.
          Diligenter hos docere,
          Ut deberent signa ferre
          Et prodesset impetus.

          In contione est mandatum:
          Praestet quisque se paratum
          Ipsa nocte media!
          Cuncti equis tunc versentur,
          Ut *** hoste proelientur,
          Quorum vis sit propria!

          Equis ilico vehuntur
          Atque gladii stringuntur,
          Exeunt tum taciti.
          Strenuum se praebet pedes
          Et virtute certat eques,
          Cuncti rixae cupidi.

          Libratores super vallum
          Adiuvantes ludum malum
          Iaciunt librilia:
          Glandes parvas et immanis
          Turcis mittunt ac paganis,
          Ut spargantur in fuga.

          Dux Eugenius tegit latus
          Velut leo proeliatus,
          Generalis maximus.
          Ludovicus clamat late:
          "O Germani, depugnate
          Hostem quemque funditus!"

          Ludovicus est privatus
          Vita, nondum diu natus:
          Plumbo ictus cecidit.
          Dux Eugenius valde dolens
          Atque illum valde colens
          Cis Danuvium sepelit.

Who saved Poland and Austria from the Turks.
Also, Eugene's wars against France are irrelevant. It's the Turkish front that counts in this thread. It's not about who was a greater military leader, but who saved Europe from the Turks.
Also, if Eugene was gay or not, it's irrelevant as well.

But if Eugene hadn't beaten the French at Blenheim, Malplaquet and Oudenard you'd all be speaking French today? Can't you see which is the greater of two evils?

Nah, we'd watch artsy French movies with plenty of full frontal nudity.
