  • Aid Collections For New Orleans and Rest Of Southeastern USA

What plans are in the works from nations around the world to aid in this hurricane disaster that stretches from Louisiana to Florida, and heavy rains and tornados further north, into Tennessee for instance?

Where are you, and what aid plans are underway?

    Wal-Mart gave $1 million.

    That's 0.01428% of their 2004 profits (approx $7 billion).

Wouldn't it be great if we had a government that would provide for our people in a time of need so that we didn't need to rely on pittance?

Personally, I don't have much to give. But my folks have given me the green light to choose a relief fund. Don't know how much we'll be giving though.
To us, it is the BEAST.

Well hooray for your folks. :

Pretty much asking about other countries though.

Why should they? It's a relatively small natural disaster.

Well, when you are putting it in the perspective of international aid, it is. But then, I don't support that kind of thing so maybe I'm biased against it.

Why should they? I know you must be joking.
For one thing, right now, stick that area on the map, see what it includes.
Texas, just a for instance, is the size of France and England combined.
This devastated area is much larger than Texas.

And Sava, our government has in the past, and will continue to make supplies, and rebuilding loans available.
              So don't even.
Again, lets be clear on this question.

WHAT are OTHER nations going to do?

I think we're all surprised of the magnitude of this thing. We've known this was possible for a while but i think everyone is just starting to realize how big it is.
The fact that this is happening in the US also doesn't help: i still have that feeling that the cavalry is going to storm into town, round up the looters and shoot them and the navy's going to ram the USS JFK into that levee to plug the hole.
To tell you the truth i think we're alll a bit surprised that you guys might need help. There was never a question about Sri Lanka needing the whole world to help. It is taking a bit longer for it to sink in that you guys might too.
                  What?

Help, if the US require help.

Just like European countries help each other when one is overwhelmed by a natural disaster. Or just like western countries helped all the countries hit by the Tsunami, except Burma (which refused aid).

I'm sure many countries will be eager to send what the US can't provide sufficiently, if there's such a thing.

Maybe that's why there's nothing going on in other countries.
Is it just me or isn't the big picture being presented here? I get the feeling that the information is largely anecdotal, i have a hard time grasping the scope of the whole thing.
                        What?

Is France going to do anything to help with New Orleans?

We don't need the rest of the world to give us money for this. Small as in, not a 500billion dollar disaster.
