Exactly. If the rest of the world wants to help, they could try sending help to Iraq.

If the US tells us that they need help to face the catastrophe, most probably.Originally posted by DinoDoc
Is France going to do anything to help with New Orleans?
Since the US probably already has all the emergency food and transportation it needs, it's likely that the main need for outside help is with know-how. Not that the Yanks can't do anything right
, but they probably don't have enough available people with the right skills. France has a skilled emergency corps, and often sends them abroad after catastrophes.

In times past, we probably wouldn't have known much about what was really happening for weeks. Is it just me or isn't the big picture being presented here? I get the feeling that the information is largely anecdotal, i have a hard time grasping the scope of the whole thing.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

I don't think anybody has the big picture in view yet. We are getting good timely info, however, considering the circumstances.I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. how about a law saying insurance companies must insure against flooding?Originally posted by SlowwHand
And Sava, our government has in the past, and will continue to make supplies, and rebuilding loans available.
So don't even.
that would help...
or is it unpatriotic to do something that lessens the profits of the insurance industry? To us, it is the BEAST.

I dont know about other countries, but I am going to start giving money to the relief effort. I have no doubt that there is going to be enough money from government aid and charity.

Venezuela offers fuel, food to hurricane-hit US
The offer is most likely a comparative drop in the bucket, but he sure knows how to play the propaganda game...

Jesus, that's f*cking brilliant. Not quite as amusing as Castro offering to send election observers to Florida in 2000, but a much better PR coup.Originally posted by Jonny

Well we end up paying for the damage one way or anther. People who dont have Flood coverage end up getting help From FEMA. I dont know how much they can help, but the point is that etheir way we pay in taxes or insurance rates. But this should spur the debate, should people even live in areas that are prone to be destroyed durring hurricanes?Originally posted by Sava
