  • So, got any election selectors?

Last I've seen, there's elections happening in Japan, Germany, Norway, Poland, and Australia Minus. That means that there ought to be some election selectors, where you can put in a bunch of answers to different political issues and then have it tell you who to vote for.

    Let's have them here!
"Spirit merges with matter to sanctify the universe. Matter transcends to return to spirit. The interchangeability of matter and spirit means the starlit magic of the outermost life of our universe becomes the soul-light magic of the innermost life of our self." - Dennis Kucinich, candidate for the U. S. presidency
"That’s the future of the Democratic Party: providing Republicans with a number of cute (but not that bright) comfort women." - Adam Yoshida, Canada's gift to the world

OK got a "selector" for you right here:

A study of how students see Norway's political parties and the types that typically support them provides amusement and insight as election day approaches.

Labor: Tax-loving hikers that stand up for their rights and drive Volvos.

Conservative: Privatization-loving, tennis-playing finance types that prefer the "fine" things in life.

Progress: Anti-immigrant salesmen that like dance band music on the ferries to Denmark.

Socialist Left: Environmentally-friendly social workers who sit in pubs and talk about toppling the rich.

Christian Democrat: Puritanical Christians who want to help the poor and have no fun.

Center: Gun-happy farmers who insult city-folk and the European Union from their Ladas.

Liberal: Electric-car-driving teachers who don't want to do much more than enjoy culture.
      Who would you vote for?

All questions except 0 are on a 1-5 scale, where 1 is complete agreement, 3 is don't know/don't care and 5 is complete disagreement.

            0. Sex: Female, Male

            1. "Cash support" (a payment to parents of small children - 1-3 years old, I think - who do not use publicly supported childcare centres) should be increased.

            2. Gay (couples) should be allowed to adopt children.

            3. Public bureaucracy should be trimmed and made more efficient.

            4. Father leave (on birth of a child) should be increased. (I think it is currently 4 weeks.)

            5. The current practice on abortions (always allowed until 12th week, needs application to an expert committee afterwards) should continue.

            6. We should use more oil money than we do now.

            7. Norway should join the EU.

            8. Norway should increase the foreign aid budget.

            9. Norway should accept fewer refugees and immigrants.

            10. Norway should increase state ownership (of strategic industries, major banks, oil companies, telecom etc.).

            11. There should be free meals offered in primary and secondary schools.

            12. Advertisements in school books should be allowed.

            13. Drilling for oil in the Barents Sea should be allowed/encouraged.

            14. More rivers should be exploited for hydro power.

            15. More predators in the fauna!

            16. More private schools should be encouraged.

            17. Government transfers for districts/remote areas should be reduced.

            18. More private alternatives and increased competition in the healthcare sector.

            19. Lower taxes are important.

            20. Norway should build several natural gas power plants, even though technologies for cleaning carbon dioxide emissions have not been developed.

            21. Norway should make immigration easier for qualified workers.

            22. Car taxes should remain at present levels. (The word used indicates that the alternative would be a reduction, not an increase.)

I believe the only party that has a different policy in its manifesto would be the Christian Democrats (Kristelig Folkeparti), who want to make abortion illegal - probably with some of the usual exceptions. I think some women's groups within Labour (Arbeiderpartiet) have been talking about extending the limit to 16 weeks, but it is not official policy.

That is supported by most parties on the left (I am not completely sure about Arbeiderpartiet, but I think so). 36% is really low as a best match, though.
