  • I must admit, Agathon, I got a bit tired of reading all that when I got to the third repetition of the Seagulls joke, but the one in the second post about the city full of water was not very well timed.

      • Jeez, Aggie, you need to spread out the jokes rather than crap them out at once!

        • Nah, they are just the standard football jokes, I've heard them all before but with a Manc/Liverpool slant...best he gets them out of the way.....they'd only have been a cut 'n' paste job from a Newcastle fansite anyhow....;O)

          • The best joke of the week is all the wailing and rending of garments on Liverpool fansites about the Owen deal.

            • How is your new star player that nobody else wanted/who didn't want to sign for you?

The die was cast 12 months ago with Owen, we either sold him for £8M or let his contract run down and get nothing for him, after that somebody was always going to make a tidy profit on him eventually. He should have been forced to sign (or sold) the year before, I think sentimentallity set in with the board and GH and they assumed that Owen would never screw them over.

Madrid were just lucky that they manged to find someone desperate enough to sign him!

              • He's a great player, definitely not a bad signing. He was priced highly though because Madrid were happy to keep him.

                • newcastle didn't pay a high price for owen, a few £million and a cripple for a 20 goal/season striker, it's a deal, it's a steal, it's the sale of the ****ing century!

                    • I think they were bluffing, he'd have been back down to £8M by January (of couse by then Newcastle would have been effectively relegated!)

The fact it was World Cup year forced Owens hand, I think he was scard of Defoe finding a bit of form at the same time he was warming a bench. Newcastle suited him perfectly, high(ish) profile club that will start him every game he is fit to play (and a few he isn't probably)

                      • He apparently made more appearances than anyone else in the Madrid squad last season - 47, including 20 starts.

If dropping Raul was possible at Real he'd have started a lot more, he was their most effective striker last season.

                        • Ability hasn't been the main requirement at Madrid for the last few years, if it was Makele would still be there.

That Owen stat is surprising though, but this year they've got another 2 strikers as well.....

                          • Yeah, and Robinho is better than Owen. I don't know about Julio Baptista that much though.

                            • I don't think it was that no-one wanted Owen, more that no-one wanted him for 17 million which is a lot of money (for anyone but Chelsea)
