If you watch his press conferences he often is but the press focus more and more on his negative aspects the better Chelsea do.Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth

We've scored the most goals and created the most chances (as evidenced by the shots at goal stats) but still we're called boring.Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth

Brave of you to comment on Lampard after Gerrard's woeful shooting, especially from free kicks, last night.Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth

Question from an unknowledgable fan
Suppose you wanted to put together a Champions League caliber club side on an adequate budget. (We're not talking Chelsea here, but enough that you could get the players you need to be competitive.)
Which current (or currently available) manager would you want choosing the players (edit: and developing talent)?
Which current (or currently available) manager would you want coaching on the sidelines?
(In US pro sports these are usually two separate positions: general manager and coach, respectively. Not sure how it works in euro football. Please advise.)
Consider this a world wide market - you can pick someone from any country to put together your team.Last edited by Adam Smith; September 29, 2005, 10:55.Old posters never die.

The way it works in European football is you usually have one manager who picks the team and coaches from the sidelines, but they have their own staff to assist them with coaching etc.
For me it'd be out of Mourinho, Benitez, Hiddink or Deschamps. I'd go for Mourinho personally, his budget at Porto was pretty miniscule. But assuming Mourinho and Benitez are now too expensive for our adequate budget outfit I'd go for Hiddink just ahead of Deschamps. Hiddink's got great experience getting a lot out of moderate talent. Look what he did with Korea in the world cup and with PSV last season...
The problem with these 'adequate budget' sides is that they tend to get broken up immediately after they do well because the top teams with big budgets poach their best players.Jon Miller: MikeH speaks the truth
