On one hand:

-It's the army, and you don't get to choose your assignments.
-It's not as if he was drafted - he signed up volountarily, so I think it should be clear to him that he might do some stuff that he wouldn't agree on.

IIRC the son signed up after 9/11 and supported the war in Afghanistan, he wasn't much of a fan of the Iraq war and became less of a fan of it as it dragged on but fought anyway because he wasn't a deserter.
Anyway I find it highly repellant for people to lecture a mother for misrepresenting what her dead son believed without even bothering to research what her son actually believed.

Except Sheehan denies she ever said that. Is there a verifiable source? According to her, someone got a hold of an actual e-mail she wrote to Nightline and then added the comments about Israel.
