Moron was coined by psychologist Herbert Goddard in 1910, and used to describe a person with a genetically determined mental age between 8 and 12 on the Binet scale.

Meanwhile, the Kansas Board of Education — and I'm using that term lightly — has endorsed the use of Intelligent Design in the science classrooms by a 6-4 vote earlier this week.

Local districts, of course, will have the final say in what they do, but having support from "on high" can only embolden those who seek to further undermine science in that state and, more worrisome, across the nation.

As for my views, well, let's just say that I think there's a lot more going on than we can ever hope to know ... but that doesn't mean we *shouldn't* try to know. As such, I cannot in good conscious limit myself to the tunnel vision of a creation view by a single church.

But at least 55% of Americans are smart enough to know the truth
Unfortunately not even that, I recall reading in the Nation Geographic some time ago that 45% of Americans believe in literal creationism (that is, Earth created according to Genesis in the last 10'000 years), around 40% believe that God started it all but that evolution may have had some influence, and only something like 10-15% concurred with the vast majority of science.

the Kansas Board of Education — and I'm using that term lightly — has endorsed the use of Intelligent Design in the science classrooms by a 6-4 vote earlier this week.

I think that opinion in the United States is decidedly different from the rest of the world because we have a free press -- by free, I mean a virgorously presented right wing point of view on the air and available to all.- Ned

Look. The thread was stated by someone who starts threads like the number of K.I.A. American soldiers.
                Why American? Why not Brit?
And so you have some high expectation?

And hey, before you say anything, thats's relevant.

45% of people who don't accept the overwehlming opinion of the scientific comminuty is worrying especialy when that non acceptance is based on a one book written thousands of years ago. However they are not morons, infact that is the worrying thing.

What's wrong with using a little intelligent design when building science classrooms? That way every student would have access to a bunsen burner, a sink and will have an unobstructed view of the projection scree.

I think 100 years is more than enough for the 20th century.

We'll let you skip through it in 10 years if we consider you to be making good progress and don't fall into any of those traditional pitfalls, eg, world wars, great depressions, etc
