Both Che and Agathon have posted replies in this thread.
    you have read it all

Actually, I hope they answer since they sometimes says something sensible.

Though, Che might be flamed for his earlier atrociites .

Yea, unionizing Wal Mart would be cool. And heck, if they give it a shot and Wal Mart closes down the store, its still a victory
Not for the poor people who work there -- at least not in the short term.

If they're smart about it, they won't go after individual stores, but instead target whole regions, like they did with meat packing in the 80s. It's one thing to shut down a store in BFE, Illinois. It's another thing to close every store in Southern Illinois. Or maybe even go after the chain as a whole, ala the steelworkers in the 1930s.

That's exaclty why it'd need to be more one store.

A better method would be to unionize workers at one of Walmart's big distro centers.

Railroad workers played a big part in inudstrial era unions as they could shut down everything. Today, the chokepoint is still in distribution, but focused on the warehousing rather than the transporting.

Ehrm, no. They may suffer for a short time, but on long terms unioization of WM workers will help them.

It's midnight, dude. No one at the beach but drunks, bums, and sharks. I don't want to hang out with any of them.

Nah, I guess that the drunks and the bums won't care much aboutyou, but the sharks - they may like you - after all, your bite is sometimes quite good

Oh, it's six o'clock here and I shoould be sleeping

Luckily I'm trying to get rid of one of those seven weeks of vacation I have

If enough stores organised to unionize simultaneously... they might not be so quick to shut up shop.

They'll probably just fire and rehire in that case though.

The hookers in my neighborhood are much better looking.

Timing is key, a strike during the holiday season could really mess with things, as that is when most retail profit is made.

CNN did a really good piece explaining that the rebel unions are more of the blue collar and private industry people. I guess I missed understanding that. I'm, technically, in the white-collar public unions.
Exactly the pro AFL-CIO unions tend to be the more old school ones that're basically happy with the status quo and most of their efforts are spent at staving off any change of the status quo. The rebels are mostly poorer (especailly the SEIU) and they're in industries that're expanding and they're trying to fight hard and expand with them and they're not really very happy at all with the status quo (especially the them being poor bit). The rebels are basically the future since they're the ones that're growing (especially the SEIU again) and come closer to having their **** together (especially the SEIU once again).

In a nut shell the AFL-CIO fits the profile of a declining labor movement to a t, while the rebels fit the profile (or at least come closer to) of an vital expanding labor movements (poor, hungry, young energetic and in expanding industries).

Your seven weeks of vacation is thanks the the strong unions you despise so much. if it weren´t for those you´d have to work 12 hour days, 6 days a week and have (maybe) 2 weeks of unpaid vacation...
