They have done well, mostly, but glossing over where they have clearly failed helps nobody. It's because I have such high expectations for the police that I am so harsh about this monumental f-up.

And if Israel has ever let a suspected suicide bomber they've been observing get right up close to their target, that would really surprise me.
Expectations - Perhaps living next to a city with dozens, if not hundreds of unsolved homicides, has left me with lower expectations. Everything ive read about police work, everything ive read about combat, everything ive read about terror, everything I know about human nature, leads me to expect a certain amount of human error.

Israel - well theyve had lots of suicide bombers who HAVE gotten through and blown themselves up. Not sure who or how many were under observation. Usually IF they have them under observation, its from the border, so theres more chance to stop them early. Also, I suspect the Israelis are quicker than the Brits to kill them sooner and not wait till they get close to a target. The Israelis have long since given up caring about the opinions of certain kinds of idiots who micromanage the work of security forces, and who dont recognize the dilemmas terrorism creates.
