Guynemer, true, true... then again, having that kind of chip lead... you could have force your way a long time.. I'm not saying calling that with pocket eights was a horrible thing to do.. risky.. but.. very possible to win.. yeah.. next time then, eh?

I'm not playing with real money yet.. with play money I've played for a while myself. It's stupid sometimes, because folks are always going to see all flops, and some people just go all-in right after getting cards and few follow and no one has **** but even with pocket aces, when you go all-in then, all you get is bad beats... so I prefer playing with people who treat it like it was real money. And know how to actually play.. but not too well .

I think another reason why I succeed at $50 playing mostly fundamental poker is that even though in general those players know what cards to play, often they don't know how to play them. You still see people calling the big blind constantly pre-flop; few people have the stones to raise. So when two or three or four people call the BB, and then I raise it by 4-6x the BB, a lot of those guys fold. I win lots of pots pre-flop doing that.

Guynemer, right I know what you mean, but that's simply just bad playing. If you play tight, play only the top hands, you won't go spending all your money before the flop, or even after it. I mean, that's not tight game anymore. But yeah, lots of people do that. And then you can basically start buying the pots or bully people out of their chips ..

I'm seriously considering trying my hand at online poker while I have some time away from work... anyone got any good guides or advice for someone who knows the basics but has never played for proper money before? Or can anyone recommend a good UK site?

Yeah. Play conservatively. Be patient. And what ever you do, don't stray away from your original strategy if it's a good one. You need to win more averagely, not all the time.

I'd say a good ratio with flops seen is less than 30%.. I mean if it's over that, then you play loose guaranteed. You need to play tight since it's online poker. You get bad beats a lot there. Lots of fools ready to go with you and those bastards are lucky so you need to play tight. I'd say as for showdowns, about 45%-50% is good if you play tight and less than 30% flops seen. If you keep those ratios, and play conservatively and smart, check out for possible flushes, three of a kinds and straights for your opponents and react to them accordingly, you should be doing OK if you know how to play in general that is.

This depends entirely on the betting style of the table, the size of the stacks and the size of the blinds.

If the stacks are much larger than the blinds (70X, say) and somebody makes a raise of 3X size of BB and there's 2 other callers then I will call with anything that shows promise...
