A terrific deal. If this place was in Riverside, CA I'd be plotting to kick you out and taking over.

My place's 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom for same rent which is considered a good deal in my area.

(by the way I still need a third roommate )

      Hmmmmmm

Mercer conducts the survey to help multinational companies and governments determine how much to pay their expatriate employees.
      Hmmmmmmm

If that's what they're measuring maybe its high because corporations have to pay their employees a whole big wad of cash to get anyone in their right mind to move here

But still, there's no conceivable way that Seoul is more expensive than New York. Seoul is cheaper than rural Maine

I pay C$1,400 a mont for a two-bedroom apartment, 650 gross square feet (measured from the outside), actual is about 500 sq ft.

Suppose the expats don't cook and eat out at expensive restaurants every night, and suppose they only live in hotels or service apartments, that sorts of things.

Like LoA says, they look at the cost of having the same lifestyle. So they look at things like how much would dinner cost at a American-style restaurant, how much does it cost to buy American food in a restaurant, etc.

It's also skewed because they usually talk to executives. so they're looking at highend lifestyles.

Is that all inclusive, i.e., you don't have to pay for rates and management fees and so on? If so, it's not bad.

All inclusive, and yeah it's okay, but rent rates are going up again.

Still, the interior is well designed and they knocked out a wall to create an open kitchen so it feels even bigger. I'm out in Heng Fa Chuen, near Chai Wan so the rents are cheaper than say over near Central.

You own your place in Hung Hom?

That's a remarkably stupid way of comparing cost of living. Can't people be a little flexible?

You only have old residential buildings around Central The expensive ones are the massively hyped buildings, e.g. the Arch. So whose bright idea it is to put a hole in a high-rise anyway?

I thought the exact same thing. Munich is (at least in Germany) considered the most expensive place to live in.

But that means that Seoul qualifies as expensive due to the cost of its imported designer clothes and its surf
and turf, i.e. the cost of stuff that you'd have to be an idiot to buy regularly if you lived here...

                              How ridiculous.
