      Oh sorry.

I was wondering why you were asking me to comment on something I'd made it clear I pretty much agree with. Never mind.

they'll agree with you. But they'll feel guilty. If it gets play, and their pals at the espresso bars in Seattle start asking about it, they'll feel worse. Which doesnt, say, kill Longhorn (or whatever - Im no techie, whatever my family thinks) but its NOT something that MS would WANT. How much do you suppose MS spends on programs specifically designed to raise employee morale?

        • Can't be bothered to read everything since I last posted; did anyone explain how MS declining to do business in the PRC would help wrt to human rights abuses?
Why can't you be a non-conformist just like everybody else?

It makes the academics feel warm and fuzzy inside.

It has no impact on the real world...

            They're avoiding this point.

Situation 1: MS does what it's doing. Chinese people have a censored blogging service.

Situation 2: MS stops providing this service. Either someone else steps up and starts providing this service (in which case the Chinese people still have a censored blogging service) or no one does, in which case they have no blogging service."

                1. Its embarrasing to China when theyre called this. Lots of negative publicity. Should be real fun for all involved when they solicit the replacement, as well. ("so, YOU are the company that went it after MS pulled out in defense of freedom")

Embarrassing that they no long have an MS-provided blogging service?

                2. China bears costs during the transition.

It's not as if they're changing OS's or something. It's as if China banned Google - there are tons of other search engines out there.

                3. Presumably the replacement is an inferior service. Isnt MS the best???

It's a blogging service. I don't see any particular reason MS's would be uber-awesome or even particularly good.

It's not meant to be an insult, but to describe the state of mind and the disconnect from the real business world.

They're very different people from Philosophy instructors.

The good Business Professors have real world experience in business.

The answer is too obvious so no one bothered.

They would all disagree with you.

                          • I very, very much doubt that.

My dad's a business professor. He disagrees with you.

A lot of professors at business schools have had some real-world business experience. The head of the communications department at the University of Alabama's business school was a major corporate communications head honcho before going there to teach.

Maybe you have only taken intro to micro economics where maximizing profit in the short run is the only concern. Business majors are concerned with the bigger picture these days with all the corruption in business.
