    Isn't this whole thread something of an attack on a strawman? Who is it who argued that partiot act was Ok so long as it was temporary? It seems to me that people who oppose it it have always opposed it no matter how breifly it would be in effect and it seems that those who supported it it have always argued it ought to be permanent.
