  • I'm really hyped that backwards-compatible games will be in high definition (720p) with 4x FSAA.

Thousands of game fans sat on "marshmallow" bean bags waiting to get inside the Zero Hour aircraft hangar for their first look at the Xbox 360.

        • I dunno about that but this does strike me as a crappy way to launch a product.

          • the pics remind me of what I can remember of the US pavillion at the '67 Montreal worlds fair, Bucky Ball and all.

I agree it sounds pretty cheesy though.

                • wow, I don't believe all the hysteria that is going on with the launch

the local papers here are reporting long lines and even fights breaking out between SOCCER MOMS

in the Naperville Sun, there is a section for Police Reports and in today's paper there are four incidents involving people waiting in line for Xbox360s... apparantly people are saving spots in line and other people are getting pissed off and fights have ensued

2 of these incidents occurred at a Walmart

in another paper, ON THE FRONT PAGE, there is an article about a guy's "quest" to find an Xbox360... he has not been successful... it is like a diary, and it goes by time

9:02 I am waiting in line

                  9:33 no Xbox yet

                  etc...

I've heard them too, but only on the PS3 IGN boards.

All of the real reports I've heard report no problems.

The most comedic aspect is, of course, the Slashdot article on the front page called "Xbox 360 Very Unstable", referencing about 3 or 4 people who have complained on forums with vague descriptions of it crashing.

                    • For those of you who are not aware, here is the "bathtub curve" regarding electronic device failures:

When the PS1 launched, it was widely reported to have overheated and crash. Anyone else remember the "place a book under a front corner" workaround?

When the PS2 launched, it was widely reported to have lots of drive errors and many that simply didn't boot at all, and some scratched discs.

When the Xbox launched, it was widely reported to have lots of overheating and harddrive failures.

This is par for the course. It's partly due to the bathtub curve, and partly due to fanboys who take a reported incidence rate across the internet that numbers at about a dozen, max, and suddenly this means they're failing left and right.

                        • One of my friends is gonna get an Xbox360. I'll see if he has any problems.

I doubt there will be major hardware issues. As with anything like this, the people who have problems usually complain, the people who don't have issues, don't complain. Thus, the problems become overhyped and are usually blown out of proportion.

That's just my feeling on it.

                          • HAHA... silly nerds. I'm just going to wait a few months. Either preorder or wait. Waiting in line is just loser-ific.

I've seen your opinions of Xbox on this board before, so I'm going to take what you say with a grain of salt...

The (one) person I know who secured one has had no problems with it. I should have mine shortly as well.

I was at Superstore today (kind of like a Canadian Walmart, but more Grocery oriented). Anyway, I was looking for the 360 version of Call of Duty 2 (which they were sold out of), but the lady infront of me was looking for an Xbox 360 and the electronics woman told her that she probably wouldn't see any units actually in the store until after New Years (due to preorders they have yet to fill).
