  • 480p is what all progressive screens will support, so it's the default. You wouldn't want the game system to default to a signal that some screens will never be able to resolve.

Maybe I should rev up my projector and buy this thing (I want to be hated by nostromo too)...
I came upon a barroom full of bad Salon pictures in which men with hats on the backs of their heads were wolfing food from a counter. It was the institution of the "free lunch" I had struck. You paid for a drink and got as much as you wanted to eat. For something less than a rupee a day a man can feed himself sumptuously in San Francisco, even though he be a bankrupt. Remember this if ever you are stranded in these parts. ~ Rudyard Kipling, 1891

              • IGN gives PGR3 8.8/10

Microsoft and Bizarre Creations have fashioned a beautiful, fast-moving racer in a style Xbox gamers are all too familiar with. The game is gorgeous, deep in modes and challenges, and well balanced, even if it's nothing more than a minor leap in gameplay over its predecessor. On the one hand that doesn't bother me a bit. The game wasn't broken before, and now it's more accessible. It's even fatter with modes and online gameplay and challenges, credits, medals, kudos, and trophies than before. On the other hand, there is nothing drastically or even moderately next generation about the racing itself. It handles almost identically to PGR2, the AI balance is similar and the courses and kudos tricks are all in-line with the previous games. There are slight differences, but not many nor enough. Still, as a launch title for Xbox 360? Hell, this is without hesitation on my top five list. It's a no-brainer, must-have launch title.

                • Well, I tried the 360 at my local Futureshop. I tried Kameo and King Kong. None impressed me. Can't say the graphics scream "next gen". And I could plainly see jaggies on the Samsung LCD. Maybe a moron didn't set it up properly, who knows? The controller, OTOH, is great!

                    • Was the LCD in high definition (720 widescreen) or still standard TV?

There's only so much you can do in 640x480.

I wouldn't worry too much, developers have only had the actual graphics chip for about 4 months now, games had to be done a month ago for launch...takes a while to figure it all out.

                        • I played Call of Duty 2 at Circuit City the other day. It was freaking amazing! The controller was great and the graphics were incredible (on a Hi-Def screen). I can't wait to grab the system... but it probably won't be until next year .

                          • Xbox 360 mania slams CircuitCity.com
                            By Greg Sandoval
                            Staff Writer, CNET News.com

The frenzy to land an Xbox 360 has begun.

Minutes after Microsoft's next-generation game console went on sale Friday afternoon at CircuitCity.com, the site was hobbled by a deluge of traffic.

A representative for the online counterpart to electronics retailer Circuit City said the company's site saw a "tremendous" traffic spike at 2 p.m. ET, when the company began taking Internet orders for the eagerly awaited Xbox. (Specific traffic numbers were not immediately available from Comscore, which tracks Web use.) Microsoft has predicted it will sell 3 million consoles within the first three months following the Xbox 360's release.

Other retailers had taken preorders for the Xbox, but Circuit City was the only online store selling the consoles Friday.

"The Web (store) did become slow for the majority of customers," acknowledged Amanda Tate, a Circuit City spokeswoman. She declined to specify how many Xboxes were sold or how many the company made available through its Web site.
CircuitCity.com sold out of its available consoles in less than three hours, Tate said.

The Xbox goes on sale at brick-and-mortar stores at 12:01 a.m. Tuesday. Those customers who purchased a console from Circuit City's site will have to pay extra for shipping to receive the machine by Tuesday, Tate said.

Shoppers will likely be camping out in front of their local electronics stores and long lines are expected.
