    how so?

It's large corporation controlling the media, not the goverment. This is what happens with de-regulation. Now we could have the goverment step in again, and control what the airwaves broadcast.

we need more libertarian radio stations like 101.3 - the rebel, or 95.6 - **** the government, or 88.6 - live free or die.

Lawrence, where do you live? I'd love to listen to a libertarian radio station. I'd prefer to have as unbiased a news station as possible, but a libertarian one would be cool, too. I live on Long Island, NY.

libertarian may be good in theory, but it doesn't work in the real world. Sort of like communism.

What's so hilarious about the idea of liberal talk radio? It might be able to succeed if it were run competently, unlike Air America.
Hmm. So you're really *serious* about supporting liberal talk radio, are you? Funny, I got the opposite impression from your post (for some reason, I read it as being sarcastic ... not sure why, really. *whistles innocently*):

"I agree with the OP. We need a real liberal voice in talk radio; TV and the print media just aren't enough."
Anyway, dig a little bit into the ownership structure of the media, and you'll find out just how much of it is owned by rather large companies. And if a media source *isn't* owned by a large conglomerate of some sort, odds are it's dependent on a big company somewhere, somehow, for providing its content (or has an interest, controlling or otherwise, in the smaller operation). IOW, true "mom-and-pop" media with a regional, national or global influence is pretty much nil. Then again, it's pretty much the same way with just about every other facet of the economy.

I actually thought about doing that back in the early 80's--not a liberal station, but an all-comedy station.

I got the idea because,in the early 70's, I was a big fan of KPPC-FM radio, which was started in the basement of a church for a measly $50,000. I figured if they could do it, so could I. However, in the ten years which had passed since the founding of KPPC, all the radio frequencies in LA which are usable had been licensed. This left me with the only option of buying out an existing radio station, which costs millions of dollars.

Wrong, it only seems that way because it isn't far-right wing crap. An analysis of their guests and sources reveals that NPR uses right-wing and center-right sources and guests much more than left wing or liberal ones.

I listened to quite a bit of Air American this last week and I have to say, it's not that bad.

                          Hey, look at that:

Corpus Christi, TX - KCCT 1150 AM
I drove all around Corpus Christi. Reception of 1150 AM is poor to non-existent. On the other hand the Right-wing station 1360 AM is crystal clear all over town.

                            Pax,

Don't you get Pacifica Radio there? That has Democracy Now and some other lefty programs. It's listener sponsered, which is good, but they have pledge drives sometimes.

I thought you would know what a left wing POV was. Do you think FOX is fair and balanced then?
