It's **** like this that make me want to throw away all my ID and live off the grid in a shack in Montana. But that's just too much work.

I'm glad the Governor's are fighting this. In addition to being an unfunded mandate (like the states are in good financial health anyway), it's a commandering of state officials. The governors are correct that they are trying to get state officials to do the INS's job, which ain't Constitutional.

PLanes and trains I can understand but buses?! WTF? OBL isn't going to be riding grey hound. All a terrorist has to do is buy a $1000 beater of a car and drive where he wants. I suppose the buses thing was added in to try to stop illegal aliens from transiting the country by bus (which many of the poorest illegal immigraints do indeed do) but still it is pretty lame to call it an anti-terrorism measure.

Oerdin: This is an anti-illegal immigrant bill more than anything. As I understand, it stops Mexican embassy-issued IDs from being acceptable ID in order to get a state driver's license.

In time they'll likely have some sort of automatic card swipe system so the government can keep track of where people are and where they're going.
