what does the actions of an occupying force (the turks) have to do with anything?
Athens wasn't occupied. The Greeks revolted against the Venetians to get the Ottomans back. Unfortunately for the Greeks, the Venetians marched three quarters of the city off at gunpoint. You should be a lot more grateful to your saviors.
Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...
if you perfect something (what ever it is) for that something it is a step forward...thus can be seen as a compliment if someone prefected something

I doubt anyone considers perfecting stealing, warmongering and repression to be a good thing, so your claim that it was a compliment is rather silly...

the thing with the sculptures of parthenon bascially started in 1980's (not since the 19th century as the article says) with melina mercouri (never on a sunday?) and it has built up ever since. it's recent.
so the article has errors. that is why I dont know if i should trust what it says about the british museum having a law that specifically prohibits it from returning anything (it will be left with nothing, i understand).
but it would be interesting to know if indeed there is such a law.
now that i think about it it might be.
because there was a close negotiation for a "loan" of the sculptures (which is not "giving") from the british musem to athens.

we should have them on a short-term loan, 100 years or so will be fine
You'll only crush them up and build goat sheds with them or stick them in a dung heap.
" In 1801 the Cambridge professor E. D. Clarke visited the village of Eleusis near Athens, once the site of an important sanctuary dedicated to Demeter, the Greek goddess of corn and fertility. He observed this statue “in the midst of a heap of dung, buried as high as the neck,” and went on to explain that “the inhabitants of the village still regard [it] with a very high degree of veneration. They attributed to its presence the fertility of the land, and it was for this reason that they heaped around it the manure intended for their fields.” "
Of course dung heaps have an ancient noble history in Greece:
" As Odysseus was returning to his house he was recognised by his old dog Argos lying by the front door in the deep dung of mules and kine, whereof an ample bed was spread before the doors, till the thralls of Odysseus should carry it away to dung therewith his wide demesne. " (Book XVII)
The King of Ithaca had a compost pile by his front door. The maids in the house probably made it a daily ritual to add all waste to this pile. "
