Ideally if we meet for lunch it should be someplace centrally located so we don't have to hike all the way to wherever we need to go. If we want to make it easy, we can meet for lunch at someplace really informal.

Off the top of my head, there are a couple of places around the White House that will have a cheap lunch. There's a Potbelly's Sandwich shop at 17 and Penn. There's a Subway and Quiznos in the 1776 G street complex (17 and G). It's also easy to walk to Connecticut and Dupont or MacPherson Square where there should be places to eat on the weekend.

Also, I remember what DanS and Jon look like, and have a vague recollection of what KrazyHorse looks like. I'm 6'3 and I usually wear glasses, so I'm hard to miss.

Everyone should just wear their 'Poly hats and shirts

I think Timexwatch makes some good points there, shouldn't we just pick one of the places he mentions? We can always evacuate to another more suiting place if we feel like it, once everybody's accounted for.

If we just decide on a specific shop/cafe/restaurant, it shouldn't be too hard to identify oneanother. Some will group together because they know eachother beforehand, and once there's a group, the rest of us can ask "are you here for the Polymeet?" or, alternatively storm around in front of the cafe shouting "POLY" on the top of our lungs.

It might be a good idea if we all plan on wearing something distinctive, like a shirt that said something on it and then posted what we would be wearing that day. Jon Miller says he has Simpsons hat he can wear.

Subway or Quiznos or Potbelly would all be fine with me.

Ok, time is advancing, we should try to agree on a time and place - and also get an overview as to who's coming along. I'd like to suggest the following, based on what we've talked about here, and a place selected more or less randomly from the ones Timexwatch suggested:

            Date: Saturday, 11 June 2005

            Time: 1 p.m.

Place: Outside of Quiznos Sub, 1710 G Street NW (close to the corner of 17th Street & G Street, not far from the White House)

As for our plans for the day, we can talk about what we want to do when we meet. I'm sure we'll get to have a fun day together.

Now, the people who want to meet at this time and place should say so clearly in this thread so there's no misunderstandings. If there's an objection to the suggested time and place, now's also the time to speak up.

If you know you'll be wearing something distinct for the meet, tell us what it is so we can pick eachother out. I'll have an orange A4-sized sign with me that says "POLY".

And also, if you announce here that you'll be at the meet, try to be at the Quiznos on time. It'd be a shame if we have to spend too much time waiting around for oneanother. Take an earlier Metro train, or leave home 15 minutes earlier if you're uncertain you can make it on time.

You can PM Jon Miller for his cell phone number if you want to meet up with us at a later time than 1 p.m.

I'll try to remember bumping this thread regularly, so people have a chance to see the time and place, and announce that they'd like to be at the meet.

I'm very much looking forward to this!

I'll most likely be able to make it, but I think I'll be dressed normally. We can head someplace for drinks in Dupont, Foggy Bottom of Georgetown if the weather is good.

There is an outside chance I can make it. Don't wait up for me, but I might drop in if I can.

                    Yeah

It's directly behind 1700 Pennsylvania Ave. It's on a line of shops that includes a coffee shop, a pizza place, the Quizno's, a Subway and McReynold's Liquors

If people have an issue with getting to a Metro so that they can get to DC, I might be able to help. My Apartment Building is right nearby a Metro Station, and If people require it I might be able to pick them up and take them to the Metro Stop near my place. I can also arrange for people to park for free at the Metro at my place. It's going to be on a saturday, so people in the area should be able to make it.

I will definitely make it. I will wear a free T-Shirt I got at Pitt saying "University of Pittsburgh Class of 2006 College of Arts and Sciences Carpe Diem" so that I will be easily recognizable.

I'll try to make it but it looks doubtful right now.
