That's a horrible analogy. It's not like Islam is being adopted suddenly and freely in areas where it had previously not been known because of the perceived failure of the dominant religion to improve people's lives (except perhaps in Rwanda). What's going on in perhaps half of the muslim world is more akin to what is going on in the U.S. government between the political parties. Neither are actually changing their goals or philosophies so much as they are becoming less inhibited in the means they are willing to use to achieve them.
