Though I think Adu will be every bit the player that Beasley is, and possibly more. Adu is the playmaker we've been looking for. The US team has plenty of speed and athleticism, but we don't have a playmaker.

Though in a few years, you could probably put Adu up front with EJ, and he'd probably do better than most of losers who try to play striker for the US (by that time I assume McBride retires from international football).

        • im blind my ass. i've played soccer at the highest level in the state of california. i know a good player when i see one, and adu isnt aggressive enough. yeah, he can dribble like no other, but so what? you wanna play 1 on 1, go play in the mexican league. who runs faster? a player or the ball? hes got one goal through 9 games. hes only started four of them. at 5ft 8 hes kinda small, but he can still grow another two inches or so. hes only got three shots on goal out of 10 taken (thats on average one shot per game)
I don't know as Adu will ever be the huge goal scorer, but some of his assists are awesome. He's tied with a slew of others for 4th in the MLS on assists, despite limited playing time.

You are right that he isn't that aggressive now. That has limited his impact and consistency. But he's much more aggressive this year than last year because he's a bigger kid and isn't pushed around as much now. I don't know if this progression will continue.

he couldnt handle sitting on the bench. if i was him, i woulda gone to another team in europe, one not as good as Bayer Leverkusen, where he could get some playing time.

yeah, Adu the 5ft 6 playmaker, who dribbles too much, weights 140 lbs, and chose to play in america instead of europe. speed and athleticism always beats technical skill. if hes gonna be as good as beaseley, then hes gonna have to go play in europe for one, and for two, not get hyped as much as he did, because beasley didnt get any hype.

            • When he's on, Adu's really fun to watch. Exciting like no other player that DC United has. I don't know about the hype, and I'm a very casual fan in any event (I like football a lot more than soccer), but I'm glad that I will be able to watch him for the next couple of years here.

Um... LoA? Legally he can't be transferred to Europe because of his young age. Adu has basically said when he gets to the requisite age, he's gone. Though I think he should balk on the uber-clubs because he'll just be on the bench. Best to pick a decent, but non CL team so he can get some good playing time.

Wynalda could shoot at least. Not too bad. McBride is pretty decent. He had a HELL of a last few months at Fulham.

he IS the requisite age - hes like 18. i agree, dont join a CL team, go to say a French Ligue A, or Swiss Super League, or English lower premier league and play there for say one or two years as a starter, then move to a PSV Eindhoven, or an Everton.

                  • No he isn't 18. He's 16 (turned it two days back). You keep making this claim without any proof. Sorry, bub. Come back with proof or else you continue to be full of ****.

                    • His growth and weight sure seem like that of a 16-year old kid as opposed to an 18-year old kid. But I have no proof either way.
