  • World Soccer thread III

I prefer to call it football, but the older thread used "soccer" instead. Bad Imran bad.

The older thread can be found here

It's true that ManU has an ageing problem, and they don't have any real wingers such as Duff. Still their midfield line is poor for a large club.

I did the thread a favor! I call it 'football' and you have a bunch of idiot posting pictures of American football and the discussion, instead of focusing on leagues, focuses on which is the better sport. I wanted to avoid any of that.

In other news, it seems Milan Baros has blasted Rafa Benitez for subbing him so much... yeah, like that's a good move. Look for Cisse to start in the CL Final and Baros to hardly get a chance.

    Btw, speaking of English "heart":

Wigan star played on with broken leg
LONDON, May 11 (Reuters) - Wigan Athletic striker Jason Roberts fired the northern club into the Premier League playing with a broken leg.

Roberts scored and set up another as Wigan, who were only elected to the Football League in 1978, clinched second place and automatic promotion with a 3-1 home victory over Reading on Sunday.

'I fractured my fibia early in the game and it's going to take six weeks to recover,' Roberts told The Independent newspaper.

'I'm going to go home to Grenada and relax. But I'm confident I'll be fit for the start of the season.'

Roberts scored 21 goals this season as Wigan, bank-rolled by Dave Whelan, the multi-millionaire head of the JJB sports retail empire, finished seven points behind champions Sunderland.

Hmm... I want to post non-English stuff..

Galatasaray destroyed Fenerbache 5-1 to win the Turkish Cup. Hakan Sukur with 2 goals in that one.

      --

In the Italian league, Juve is only 3 points up on Milan with both playing 35 games.

In La Liga, Barcelona is up 6 points over Real and look like they'll take the Spanish crown.

Man, Arsenal completely destroyed Everton! That's like Brazil playing Lower Elbonia.

What? No it isn't it's the top team versus 4th.

Although admittedly Everton are closer to the bottom of the table than to the mighty Chelsea at the top with their record points total, number of wins, number of clean sheets, number of away wins etc. etc.

          Woo.

Next time just call it football. If idiots start posting we'll just ignore 'em... Plus the term world football is pretty much a dead giveaway of what the topic of the thread is, it's not like anyone outside the US plays American football (no, NFL Germany Europe doesn't count since aside from a few token Europeans to keep the home crowds happy, those are all Americans)...

Anyway, it seems the Dutch are not completely incapable of winning semi-finals The Dutch U17 squad won the semi-final of the EC against Italy yesterday (with Italy being the home team and after a 0-0 score at the 90 minute mark -- sweet, sweet revenge ) It was a great match, from the Dutch side anyway. The Italians played in their usual horrible style, and they didn't even do it well. At one point even the (entirely Italian) crowd started to cheer for the Dutch: "Olanda! Olanda!" The final will be against Turkey, who also have a great attacking team (probably better than the Dutch -- they're already called the new Portugal), so that promises to be a fantastic match. For those in Europe: Saturday, 19:00 CET, Eurosport.

Dutch youth teams usually suck arse, this is the furthest they've ever come. With the U20 team being one of the favourites for next month's world cup (which is held here in the Netherlands), and the new generation of the senior team still undefeated as well (granted, only after 9 matches or so and not with the best football in the world), things are certainly looking to be headed in the right direction for Dutch football...

I'd rather call it soccer than have the American football meatheads making a fuss.

Same. I'm sure you remember when Sava was posting Chicago Bears posters every few posts when a 'football' thread was started.

Anyway, this is on another thread as well, but... HAW HAW!

Glazer just bought the Irish stake in ManU. He's majority shareholder (has 63% as of this post). He needs to get 75%+1 to transfer all of his debt in acquiring the company passed onto ManU. Shareholders United are, of course, fighting tooth and nail to prevent that.

This should be interesting. If Glazer gets his goal, ManU are ****ed! I don't think Glazer will poo-poo a large debt like Abromovich might.

And I repeat on the stupidity of the name for "American Football":

                    Exhibit 1: The ball

                    Football:

                    Soccer:

1:0 for soccer, which is played with a BALL instead of an EGG.
"Football" (the american thing) has therefor to be renamed to "Footegg" after stage 1 in the proofing process.

Exhibit 2: How is it played

                    Footegg:

As you can see the egg is carried in the hands.

                    Soccer:

As is visible in this wonderful exhibition you have to go to the extreme and try to hit the ball with your foot (or your head)
Out of 22 players on the field there are only 2 which are allowed to carry them with their hands and only in a defined zone... otherwise it is considered a FOUL!

2:0 for soccer and "Footegg" further has to be renamed to "Carryegg".

Therefor I demand that SOCCER will now be known as FOOTBALL and the thing that you currently call Football.... use another name! American Football is still fine.. though it further shows that American's have no idea what the game is about that they love so much.

Do I have to spell out the history of the word again and PWN you again?!

And I notice you don't include Aussie Rules Football in your analysis. Jealous of American football, are we?

Oh, lost in all the news, Man City extended Pearce's contract. Seeing as how he's led them to an impressive run to the borders of a UEFA Cup place, they had to sign him!

Hmmm... wouldn't it be interesting next year when Glazer's ManU face off against Abramovich's Chelsea? The Brit tabloids will be billing it as the next Cold War .
