Ethanol needs subsidies to make sure that Big Oil does not try to crush it. Minnesota just passed a law that says all gasoline here mush have 20% ethanol in it by 2013. This is a PROPER subsidy, a subsidy to prevent a powerful industry from crushing it's compitition and help us get us less reliant on ME oil.

ethanol from corn is one of the least environmentally friendly oil alternatives. in fact, it is almost as bad.“It is no use trying to 'see through' first principles. If you see through everything, then everything is transparent. But a wholly transparent world is an invisible world. To 'see through' all things is the same as not to see.”

But I thought the goverment was controlled by Big Oil, meaning the subsidies are controlled by Big Oil, which means Big Oil is subsidizing ethanol.

You people need to get your conspiracy theories in order.

Farmers often overpower Big Business here, and we still have a strong Progressive streak. Minnesota has more co-ops than any other state if I remember right.Originally posted by JohnT

Governments are either in the control of Big Business or they're not. You can't have it both ways.
