Ethanol needs subsidies to make sure that Big Oil does not try to crush it. Minnesota just passed a law that says all gasoline here mush have 20% ethanol in it by 2013. This is a PROPER subsidy, a subsidy to prevent a powerful industry from crushing it's compitition and help us get us less reliant on ME oil.
ethanol from corn is one of the least environmentally friendly oil alternatives. in fact, it is almost as bad.

(However, it's true France is by far the argest agriproducer in Europe. The stroke of genius, for France, was to communitarize the subsidies, knowing that France would naturally get the lion's share of the benefits)

You people need to get your conspiracy theories in order.
I'm talking about my state government, not the feds. Us Minnesotans have not been lulled into sheepdom as badly as the rest of the country
Governments are either in the control of Big Business or they're not. You can't have it both ways.
Farmers often overpower Big Business here, and we still have a strong Progressive streak. Minnesota has more co-ops than any other state if I remember right.
