Christianity: The belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree...

According to AP reports, only 12 or so were excommunicated. The others resigned in protest. Not that it makes a difference in my book — what that pastor did was wrong, and his church should lose its tax-exempt status should an investigation prove he crossed the line of church/state separation.

Nah, just let them be. I thought that in the Baptist church the pastor served at the pleasure of the congregation, and therefore a pastor could not dismiss congregants on his own. I don't know about the baptist church, but in the Episcopalian church deacons are usually members with a long and distinguished history of service to the parish and usually are either on the vestry or have been on it repeatedly and have many friends on it. Even in the tradition bound Episcopal church, where priests are invested by a Bishop priests don't usually dismiss the vestry, it's more likely to be the other way around.
