anyways I know about ctrl-s for saving games in civ and smac. And that's what is important.
In many games it's a lot of help to be able to have a shortcut to the save menu (so you don't have to go through tons of other menus before you get to save)

maybe I should play more Civ3 - unfortunately, I think SMAX is so much better.

The thing is it's damn handy to hit ctrl-s every time after typing a paragraph (a lot handier than going to file and hit save every time). Then, if your PC crashes or whatever, you never loose more than a paragraph worth of work...Originally posted by Dissident

Autosave sucks. In most games autosave just creates a new save for each turn, so in the end I have 100000+ files for one game
