Is that part of that Miracle-Zoomâ„¢ process that exists in movies and CSI, the one that can resolve, expand, and enhance even the slightest pixels into full-blown pictures of their own, with terrifyingly sharp quality?

I really liked it when they used Miracle-Zoomâ„¢ in Enemy of the State to determine the name of a store on a shopping bag - amazing stuff, considering the name was facing away from the camera.

But all jokes aside, how is it possible to "zoom" a section of picture comprised of a finite number of pixels to show even more than the original picture?

I just want people held to the same standard. If Delay violated the law he should fry, however it seems that he has ALOT of company on these ethics violations. Hopefully the House either tightens up the rules wrt to those or Delay should have bipartisan company before the committee.

At first, I wanted to wait a bit to get more details, since it sounded like it could have been a witch hunt. But it didn't take long to see that it wasn't. Fry his ass. Even being a repug, I was nausiated by the parties effort to protect him.

Having said that, he's not the only one. There are many less well know Dems that also should be worried. I hope all of them are punished regardless of their affiliation.

Possibly. I'm not a photographer, but I'm surprised that newsies travel with cameras that are so sharp in their resolution as to actually be able to read the miniscule markings on a cigar band from 5 feet away.

I mean, damn, there's no blurring of the letters at all. Everyone of them is distinct, there's no smudging, nothing. You can't tell the color of the mans eyes, but you can read his cigar band.

              Amazing camera, that one is.

Any of y'all rabid liberals want to post the actual ethics violations that he supposedly committed.

The ones I've seen are so minor as to be ludicrous.

"The trip that was most rife with potential problems for DeLay occurred in late May and early June of 2000. According to a report Sunday in The Washington Post, DeLay's airfare was charged to an American Express credit card issued to Jack Abramoff, a registered Washington lobbyist who is under investigation by federal authorities and a Senate committee in connection with tens of millions of dollars he collected for pubic affairs work for Indian tribes. Lobbyists are barred from paying for lawmakers' travel, even if the expenses are reimbursed by an authorized source, as Abramoff's spokesman says they were in this case, experts said."

"During the same trip, $184 of DeLay's expenses, including phone calls, food and other items, were also billed to a credit card used by Edwin A. Buckham, another registered lobbyist. Under House rules, lawmakers may not accept anything of value, including entertainment, recreation or meals, from anyone if the value of the gift exceeds $50 and if the total value of gifts from one source exceeds $100 in a year."

"In addition, DeLay may not have fully accounted for the cost of golf outings at a historic Scotland resort in disclosure forms required from lawmakers. What's more, no group or corporation is allowed to pay for foreign trips that last more than a week, even for educational purposes. The London and Scotland jaunt lasted 10 days."

Obviously the height of corruption. If this is the best the Dems can do, they better start looking over their own travel accounts.

EDIT: BTW I'm not a DeLay supporter.

Its photoshopped. Either that or DeLay has hands the size of Andre the Giant.

You could write a letter to time's editor but here is the article on it.

The best part is the last sentence:

Asked about the Majority Leader's consumption of a Cuban cigar, his spokesman Dan Allen replied there has been "no change in our Cuban policy."
You have to love old Tom; he can be caught red handed in just about anything and he will still try to talk his way out of it.

I posted the link so ask time what they did. My guess is they used a very large formate digital camera which has lots of pixels. Most of the proffessions have moved to a 16-20 mega pixal camera so there is plenty of data for enlargement. Also the picture we see is not the original size but has been shrunk and Time likely was working with an original large format digital photo.

DeLay's smoke may have run afoul of his principles, but it did not violate U.S. regulations at the time.

Regardless, it's obvious that he admitted it.

But I still think the blow-up is a fake.

Like this would be the first time a "reputable" news source used documents that weren't properly checked for authenticity.

If the camera in question has enough megapixels, it shouldn't be a problem at all, asuming it's a digital camera. If it's a film camera, sufficiently high quality lenses and film should also be able to produce such a picture.

Last September, the Treasury Department Office of Foreign Assets Control tightened its prohibitions against U.S. citizens importing or consuming Cuban cigars. Even Americans licensed to bring back up to $100 worth of Cuban goods are no longer allowed to include tobacco products in what they carry. The regulation also noted that Americans are barred not only from purchasing Cuban goods in foreign countries, but also from consuming them in those countries.

Ooooh, I'm so scared. **** you, Treasury. If I wanna buy and drink Cuban rum while I'm in Mexico, I'm damn well gonna.
