Ah! Putin. He will always sell advanced weapons to enemies of the United States and Israel.

I say we pull the plug on the Space Station and impose stiff sanctions on Putins Russia.

Don't you think that Syria has the right and duty to prevent Isreal combat aircraft from violating air space. Isreal is clearly wrong for doing so and if Syria purchases these weapons and they happen to fall into terrorist hands Isreal only has herself to blame.

Does Syria still occasionally launch rockets/arty into Isreal that Isreal need to use its airforce to counterattack?

You tell me. If so then Isreal is justified in retaliation. In fact, but countries are equally wrong if this is the case. I don't think they we(the U.S.) should be allied with such foolish behavior.

Lancer, if I were Israel, I would draw a line in the sand now that Russia is selling missles to Syria. No more or else.

Or else what? The Russians sell to another hostile Arab country?
Exult in your existence, because that very process has blundered unwittingly on its own negation. Only a small, local negation, to be sure: only one species, and only a minority of that species; but there lies hope. [...] Stand tall, Bipedal Ape. The shark may outswim you, the cheetah outrun you, the swift outfly you, the capuchin outclimb you, the elephant outpower you, the redwood outlast you. But you have the biggest gifts of all: the gift of understanding the ruthlessly cruel process that gave us all existence [and the] gift of revulsion against its implications.

Israel has to act before it cannot act.

                  You figure it out.

If the Russians sell to Syria, they get money.
If this prompts Isreal to act pre-emptively, Syria gets b-slapped.
Thus the Russians can then sell even more to Syria to help it rebuild. Thus more money.

At the end of the day, I doubt the Russians really care about Isreal v Syria so much as they care about money v no money.

Maybe they can get Isreal to pay them not to sell to Syria.

Syria hasn't lobbed arty or missiles into Israel since the the early 70s. They didn't even do it during the Bekaa Valley air war in the early 80s. It's all coming from Palestinians in Gaza or what's their faces in Lebanon.

Why shouldn't Syria be allowed to protect itself ? After all it is a peacefull country that doesn't interfere into it's neighbours affairs...

The reason is the same reason Britain declared war on Germany after Germany crossed the line in the sand that Britain drew. They have to act to suppress an enemy while they still can.

Its all coming from Hezbullah which is directed and sponsored by Iran and is supported by Syria, which also controls (or until very recently controlled) Lebanon.

Hezballah has been getting free rockets - iirc from iran and syria.

So the idea of the weapons going to the wrong hands is not impossible.

And Israel sees Syria responsible for not stopping Hezbullah attacks and therefore wants to keep a military threat option against Syria viable.

Not to mention that the Israeli doctrine is heavily based on use of Aerial bombardment, and this will somewhat neutralise its effectiveness.
