Okay, let's put you in the middle of the street and have a 185-pound guy on a bike hit you full-on while he's going 20 mph. We'll see how well you do.

We just had an incident a few weeks ago where a woman was hospitalized with serious injuries when she was hit by a bicycle while she was jaywalking. It's prompted the cops to start ticketing jaywalkers again downtown.
but she wasn't killed. That's my point.

All the DUI laws came about because so many people were being killed.

We do pay taxes that pay for those roads. Thank you very much.

You said "hurt" before. And that's not true, even. DUI laws are made to protect people, whether it be from injury or death. If you hit someone with a car while intoxicated, it doesn't matter if you kill them or not wrt to being charged with a DUI.

And you can kill someone with a bike, too. If you can hospitalize an adult woman with serious injuries, you can kill someone. It's just common sense that getting hit by bicycle that's traveling at high speed has the potential to be lethal.

        Here's a story from Austin:

        APD News Release
        FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
        April 22, 2004
        Contact: Public Information Office, 974-5017
        MURDER

        Case: 03-3511680
        Date: Wednesday, December 17, 2003
        Time: 11:11 p.m.
Location: 4200 block of Guadalupe Street
Deceased: James Michael Coffee, 52 (DOB: 03-31-52)
        Narrative:

It is believed the victim was traveling northbound in a pick-up truck in the 4200 block of Guadalupe Street behind two bicyclists. The victim began honking at the bicyclists and the bicyclists made obscene gestures at the victim. The victim stopped in the road. Witnesses state that one of the cyclists struck the victim. The victim was found in the roadway. The bicyclists were last seen northbound on Guadalupe Street.

Due to the injuries received, the victim was transported to Brackenridge Hospital. In January, the victim was transferred to Fort Worth to be near his family during rehabilitation. On Monday, April 19th, Coffee died due to medical complications from the assault that occurred on December 17th.

Impossible in the city. There are parked cars there.

Where I'm from cyclists have all the rights of any other vehicle on the road except those involving travelling on a highway.
