Similar to Nintendo's approach with the Gamecube - provide the hardware adapters for online play and then let the game developers sort everything out. There's no centralized service like with Xbox live.

Iwata has a serious case of "open-mouth-insert-foot" syndrome and has made some incredibly retarded comments in the past. Luckily not everyone at Nintendo thinks like that and Reggie, one of the north american VPs actually knows what he's talking about and is fun to listen to.

      • That could be why he's the OLD CEO of Nintendo and not the current one.

          Thanks Ix and Kuci.

But from investigating the company, the old CEO of Nintendo still carries a lot of influence in the company.

I like Reggie Fils-Aime, even though I'm not a contemporary Nintendo fan (nostalgic, definitely a fan). Anyway, I hope he does turn the company around cause they've been taking a beating for years.

Depends what kind of games you want to play. We've had extensive discussions of this on OG = a budget PC will play almost everything out at the time of sale, except for the most graphics intensive FPS. Of course over the next two years after purchase it will play a declining share of new games, though still almost all TBS. By 3 or 4 years after release you'll be reduced to Paradox games only. Then you will need a new machine. Of course by then youd need a new console too, wouldnt you?

see thats the funniest thing. "I work typing at a PC all day, so i when i get home I want something completely different, so i get in front of a machine thats really a PC modified to play certain games, and instead of using a keyboard and mouse i use a controller"

Youd think someone who wants a CHANGE would ride a bicycle, plant a garden, go to a lecture, see a play, have a beer at tavern, take up cooking, or whatever. Someone who thinks that playing on console instead of a PC make a big "change" is so far down the road to ultimate geekdom, that when he calls others PC geeks, its simply hilarious.

edit to say that I'm most looking forward to Nintendo's Revolution at E3 (lol nintendo lol)

                  1. thats the DS, not the Xbox, so my technical point remains.

                  2. I wonder how playable it will really be

                  3. Thats about 4 years after release. PC ports are available for the most popular 4 year old console titles, IIUC.

                    • Who's calling others PC geeks?

I'm talking about a change in posture and environment. PC gaming and console gaming are very different in that respect.

As for "having a beer at a tavern" -- I need to drive home, I don't drink during the week. "take up cooking" -- how do you think dinner gets made. "Plant a garden" -- I'm renting a room in someone's house. "Ride a bicycle" -- Don't own one, don't have space for one, don't need one...I go to the gym 5 days a week.

                      Any other suggestions...

Probably not by "gourmet cooking" Look, im not interested in critiquing your lifestyle, much less improving it. I merely point out that there are MANY leisure activities that are more different from working with a PC all day than playing a game on a related electronic product. To suggest that the difference is a reason to play on the console strikes me as silly.

It strikes me as silly to be partisan to one platform or the other.

I enjoy both, and console gaming is a change of pace from PC gaming.

Maybe I just game more than you do and want to mix it up a bit more.

                              • Yeah I would have posted it in OG.

You could always post a more balanced thread containing your views in OG, so that we could get, uh, a wider discussion.
