Dude... get a life... (obvious response)

Do people say the same thing to Lord of the Rings fans as often, I wonder? Or sports fans? Or -gasp- Desperate Housewives fans?

Dilithium is a crystalline substance used in warp propulsion systems to regulate the matter/antimatter reactions that provide the energy necessary for faster-than-light speed.

Naturally occurring dilithium is extremely rare and is mined on only a few planets, such as Coridan, Troyius and Rura Penthe.

I think dilithium is some relatively stable element we haven't discovered yet, which probably resembles lithium in some way.

That would be very interesting since we've discovered all elements from 1 to 100+.

I think we´ll discover it soon. It´s only 58 years until Zephram Cochrane makes the first warp flight.

I've actually thought about this: they could've used so many more simple explanations that this for the immense amounts of energy the ships require. Using simple fusion/ fission ( albeit of exotic materials ) is sooooo 20-21st century....

only 58 years? he looked pretty old in the movie, so maybe he will be born soon, or perhaps just recently. Let me do a google search on him.

Yeah, there definitely are over 200 known elements by the time of Voyager, and one would assume that some of the undiscovered ones are stable. I don't know how those atoms would be created what with so many unstable ones you have to go through.

Cochrane only looks old due to radiation. They actually tried to get Tom Hanks for the role.
