For those who aspire to live in a high cost, high tax, big government place, our nation and the world offers plenty of options. Vermont, Canada and Venezuela all offer you the opportunity to live in the socialist, big government paradise you long for. –Senator Rubio
American Football and Baseball are sporting ghettoes- they aren't that big on a global basis. The question is- do you want them to be real, global sports? Featured in the Olympics and all that?
Um... baseball is in the Olympics, and it has a pretty good foriegn following, especially in East Asia and Latin America.
Oh, and I don't give a flying **** if they were using steroids. Just like I don't care that Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays and their compatriots in the 50s and 60s were hopped up on greenies (amphetamines).

If some folks in the league use doping, then it becomes mandatory to use it in order to stay on top... all the straight clean players will end up unemployed while the dopers end up getting millions of dollars and using their money and influence to reinforce the drug habit in the nation...
Yeah, great... let's just make it mandatory to use drugs in the most popular sport of the nation... that'll show a good example to the kids who want to be sport stars; really, it does...
You druglovers are disgusting. Is nobody else thinking about the children anymore?

And if some folks use greenies, it becomes mandatory to use it to stay on top. If some folks use the spitball, it becomes mandatory to use it to stay on top (though that never happened).
Can you prove that most of the players in the league are using it? From the random testing done last year, it seems less than 5% were doping.
Furthermore, you think I actually care. And **** the kids. If they are that stupid, let them use the crap.

Or we could have a legally mandated sports salary cap that prevents any player from making more than $350,000 a year. Makes less incentive for people to risk their health tahn the possibility of securiing a $100 million+ contract.
I'm about to get aroused from watching the pokemon and that's awesome. - Pekka

Well that'd be good, too.

Depends from the testing methods. Most stuff isn't even seen on the standard piss-in-the-pot tests.
Furthermore, you think I actually care. And **** the kids.
You are welcome. We have enough 'think about the children' crap. **** the children. If they are that stupid, they deserve to die. I'm sick of all this 'for the children' crap.

The last thing we need is Europeans playing baseball, talk about lack of charisma. Which is the problem with hockey too many boring Canadian and European players. Why is it that all the interesting players (Roenick, Hull ...) are American. An obligitory USA! USA!
While it doesn't become mandatory for a player to use steroids if other players are doing so. It does increase the pressure to use them.
Unlike Imran I do think less of players who are cheating, but like Imran I don't really care about the children. Although I feel bad for the parents, why is it that they found needles and lots of empty bottles only after their kids committed suicide? They really weren't being responsible parents, and share some of the blame. Of course the kids deserve most of the blame, but kids are dumb.
The whole concept of congress having hearings on this matter is beyond bizarre. I watched a few minutes yesterday. What a joke! Members of congress asking players whether congress should "step in" if the new baseball steroid rules are not sufficient. Whats next? Will they ask Jerry Springers audience for advice?
Acquiring and using steroids without a prescription is illegal. No more needs to be done. Congress has no more right to tell baseball how to run their business than they can tell Microsoft or Ford how to run their businesses. If the panel members had (collectively) the sense god gave to chickens they would have told the committee so.
