I wish that were true but the rich have rigged the system to provide them with many loop holes to protect their ill gotten gains. Last I heard OJ Simpson owned millions and millions but he still spends his days golfing and living the high life while claiming poverty because he hide his assets in protected shelters.

Ken Lay and his friends will be living high on the hog for the rest of their lives off of their ill gotten gains.

I recall reading Lay's trial takes place in January. His CFO has pled guilty I believe, and will testify against Lay.

You mean like this WorldCom CEO?

When did people like Oerdin start ignoring all facts and want instant gratification in every aspect of life?

I guess some of us got disillusioned when Microsoft got off with nothing more than a slap on the wrist.

As well they should have. Not all of us are Microsoft haters . For you, apt punishment would have been nothing short of splitting up the company, anyway.

I agree. Why aren’t Ken Lay and the other Enron executives charged with the deaths of the hundreds of old people who died of heat stroke when the power went out? Enron slashed power production in an attempt to artificially spike prices and make huge returns (100% illegal behavior), enphazima patients died because their ventilators stopped working when Ken lay's power shortages hit, kidney patients on dialysis died because they're dialysis machines wouldn't work. Yet Ken Lay and the other bastards at Enron are only accused of white collar crimes and accounting fraud. They should receive the death penalty for the people they murdered.

It'd be involuntary manslaughter, not murder. There is no mens rea for murder. And involuntary manslaughter is not a death penalty offense. In fact, it has less jail time than being guilty of a white collar crime.

I agree with the general sentiment here that immense (in this case white collar) crimes call for immense sentences. These people do massive damage compared to a simple assault.

What often gets overlooked is that major fraud and embezzlement cases will be connected to money laundering operations, organised crime and all that entails.

These crimes finance other crimes. They aren't one time only crimes.
